Description
Permabond Initiator 44 is the surface activator for Permabond no-mix toughened structural acrylic adhesives. Brush or wipe it onto one part, apply the acrylic to the mating part, and the two cure on contact with no weighing or mixing.
How Permabond Initiator 44 works
The initiator is a monomer, so it needs no dry time before assembly. It triggers cure in the TA-series acrylics such as TA459 and TA4590 the moment the coated surfaces meet. On close-fitting metal parts the system reaches fixture in roughly 15 to 30 seconds, which keeps a bonding line moving.
Where Permabond Initiator 44 fits
Reach for the initiator route when parts fit tightly and a mixed two-part bead would be hard to place. It suits metal-to-metal assemblies, magnet bonding, and production work where fast handling strength shortens the clamp step. One bottle treats a large surface area because the coating goes on thin.
Specifications
- Type: Activator (initiator) for no-mix toughened acrylic adhesives
- Use with: Permabond TA series, including TA459 and TA4590
- Method: Apply initiator to one surface, adhesive to the other
- Dry time: None required (monomer)
- Fixture time: About 15 to 30 seconds on metal
Surface prep still matters. Clean and dry both faces before coating, and remove oil or scale that would block contact. Because the activator goes on as a thin wet film, a little covers a lot, and the bonded joint develops full strength over the hours after the initial fixture. Match the initiator and adhesive grade to the gap and the substrate for the best result, and follow the adhesive datasheet for shelf life and storage.
