Description
QSil 58 potting silicone is a red, self-leveling, two-part condensation-cure material for encapsulating electronic components and assemblies. It combines liquid flow with a cured Shore A 58 elastomer, supporting applications that need cavity fill, electrical insulation, and service across a broad temperature range. Two catalyst approaches let processors select a standard thin-section cure or a deep-section system.
Processing QSil 58 Potting Silicone
The base can be mixed with 0.5 percent DBT catalyst by weight or with 10 percent QSil Deep Section Catalyst by weight. The DBT level may be adjusted in small increments when a different cure speed is needed. With the stated catalyst concentration, published data show about a 50-minute gel time and a 24-hour cure at 25 degrees C. The deep-section catalyst should be mixed thoroughly before it is added, and larger pours may need additional time for complete cure.
Thermal and Electrical Performance
The cured red silicone has a continuous published working range from -54 to 260 degrees C, with short intermittent exposure data extending higher. Typical electrical values include 13.9 kV/mm dielectric strength, about 4.4 dielectric constant, and 2E+14 ohm-cm volume resistivity. Thermal conductivity is listed at 0.31 W/mK. These figures help engineers compare candidate encapsulants, but actual assemblies should be tested for section depth, heat flow, adhesion, and electrical performance under the intended conditions.
