Description
QSil Primer 5 is a one-component, alcohol-carried solution of reactive silanes from CHT Group, applied ahead of bonding condensation cure or addition cure silicone elastomers to a prepared surface. The formulation dries to a transparent film and is a general-purpose primer for use across most silicone chemistries CC stocks, from potting compounds to molding rubbers.
How QSil Primer 5 improves adhesion
Because it is transparent and will not haze, crack, or craze polycarbonate or acrylic, this primer fits optical and display applications where a milky or brittle residue would ruin the part. It dries in about 30 minutes at room temperature above 40 percent relative humidity, so shops can prime a batch of substrates and move straight into silicone application on the same shift without a long hold time between steps.
QSil Primer 5 product properties
The formulation runs 4 percent solids with a specific gravity around 0.82 and a 24 month shelf life when stored properly and kept sealed between uses. Appearance is transparent to pale yellow in the liquid state, and the primer is suited to optical-grade parts where clarity after cure is part of the specification, not just a cosmetic preference for the finished assembly.
Applying the primer correctly
Apply a thin, even film by wiping, brushing, dipping, or spraying, then let the film flash off fully before placing the silicone bead or casting. Skipping the dry time is the most common cause of adhesion failures reported on primed substrates, so building the wait into the process plan protects the bond long after the parts leave the shop.
