Description
SeaTak is a revolutionary bio-inspired urethane pre-polymer adhesive developed through NOAA research to address coral reef restoration challenges. Unlike traditional underwater adhesives that cure underwater but don’t stick underwater, SeaTak is “super sticky and tacky” even in fully submerged applications.
Originally designed for reef restoration, SeaTak has found applications in aquarium maintenance, pool repair, concrete work, and various underwater repairs. Its unique formulation includes calcium carbonate, making it not only effective but also non-toxic to marine life – a significant advantage over cyanoacrylates and epoxies currently used in marine environments.
Features:
- Sticks Even Underwater: Unlike competitors that cure underwater but don’t stick underwater, SeaTak maintains its tackiness in fully submerged applications.
- Structural Strength: Achieves over 1000 PSI strength – unprecedented for a one-component adhesive, delivering two-part epoxy performance without mixing.
- Bio-Safe Formula: Non-toxic to marine life and doesn’t interfere with aquarium filtration equipment, unlike cyanoacrylates and epoxies that can damage filters and harm aquatic life.
- No Surface Prep Required: Works on unprepared surfaces – even through algae on concrete or directly on coral reefs without sanding, abrading, or chemical primers.
Applications / Markets:
- Reef Restoration: Original application for replanting coral fragments, replacing toxic epoxies and cyanoacrylates with a coral-friendly alternative.
- Aquarium Hobbyists: Safe for fish and filtration systems; ideal for underwater aquarium repairs and coral mounting
- Pool repair: Fixes cracks and damage without draining
- Aquaculture: Fish farms, kelp farms, and other aquaculture applications where repairs must be made in wet conditions
