Description
CAT-1300 catalyst is the catalyst component used with Shin-Etsu KE-1300T two-component addition-cure silicone rubber. The KE-1300T / CAT-1300 system is used for high-strength mold making and potting work where tear resistance, low shrinkage, and easy release are important.
CAT-1300 catalyst Benefits
- Matched catalyst for KE-1300T silicone rubber, helping shops keep the mix system consistent.
- 100:10 mix ratio by weight gives a clear starting point for weighing base and catalyst.
- Addition-cure chemistry supports mold rubber with low shrinkage after cure.
- Translucent system helps operators check mix and pour quality during setup.
- High tear strength and 40 Shore A hardness support durable molds for repeat casting work.
Use this catalyst only with the compatible Shin-Etsu base compound and follow the current technical data sheet. Small weighing errors can change cure behavior, so measure both sides with a scale suited to the batch size.
CAT-1300 catalyst Applications
- High-strength silicone molds for urethane, epoxy, wax, plaster, and similar casting materials.
- Potting or forming work where addition-cure silicone rubber is specified.
- Prototype and production molds that need clean release from detailed masters.
- General manufacturing setups that require a 40 Shore A silicone mold rubber.
- Repair stock for shops already using KE-1300T as the base material.
Surface Preparation and Use
Start with clean, dry mixing tools and containers. Weigh the base and catalyst accurately, then mix until the material is uniform. Scrape the sides and bottom of the container during mixing so unmixed material does not remain in the pour.
Confirm compatibility with the master, release agent, and any pigments before pouring a production mold. Addition-cure silicone can be sensitive to contaminants, so test against unknown substrates before committing a valuable master.
Technical Details and Documentation
Shin-Etsu lists KE-1300T / CAT-1300 as a translucent two-component addition-cure mold-making material with 24 hour cure at 23 C, 1.5 hour working time, 5 MPa tensile strength, 17 kN/m tear strength, and -40 to 175 C usable temperature range. Review current guidance from Shin-Etsu Silicone before production use.
