Description
Sia 40 grit belt stock gives fabrication teams a coarse 3 in. x 21 in. abrasive for first-stage metal sanding, deburring, and surface cleanup. It is slightly finer than 36 grit but still aggressive enough for opening a scratch pattern, knocking down rough edges, and preparing welded or rusted areas for the next sanding step.
The 2925 sialoX family is designed for general fabrication work on metal. Sia lists the product as an aluminum oxide abrasive on X-wt cloth backing with closed coating and resin-over-resin bond. That construction is useful on hand-held and bench belt sanding jobs where a paper abrasive would wear too quickly at the edge or tear under normal pressure.
Sia 40 grit belt applications
- Coarse sanding on unalloyed and low-alloy steel
- Deburring cut metal edges and machined parts
- Removing rust, scale, and discoloration before finish sanding
- Weld preparation and post-weld cleanup
- Surface treatment on non-ferrous metal before stepping to finer grits
Sia 40 grit belt performance profile
Sia describes 2925 sialoX as a cost-effective all-round abrasive with high edge stability and high initial tear resistance. The 40 grit version gives a fast cut while leaving a slightly tighter scratch than 36 grit. That makes it a good starting belt when the part is rough, but not so rough that the most aggressive belt in the rack is needed.
