Description

Surface Preparation

Prepare the substrate according to the material being bonded, and keep the adhesive and parts between 10 and 35 C during application. Sika recommends testing plastics that may be prone to stress cracking before moving into production.

Apply the adhesive as a triangular bead, assemble within the open time, and complete tooling before a skin forms. Keeping the substrate in the 15 to 25 C range helps give the most predictable flow and work time.

Technical Details and Documentation

Sika lists an open time of about 35 minutes and a skin time of about 40 minutes at 23 C and 50 percent relative humidity. Typical tensile lap-shear strength is 2.5 MPa, Shore A hardness is 50, and service temperature is generally -40 to 90 C with short higher-temperature exposure.
