Description

STAIN-PROOF Dense Stone Impregnating Sealer, formerly Stain-Proof Plus, is Dry-Treat’s solvent-based impregnating sealer for granite, marble, quartzite, and other dense natural stone countertops. It carries the same 110712 part number it had under the old name. It repels water and oil-based stains and stays invisible on the surface. Fabricators use it on the white and gray granites and tight marbles that general-purpose sealers struggle to get into. It goes on in two coats, wet on wet, and the excess is polished off with a white cloth. Stain-Proof backs it with a 25-year written performance warranty when an Accredited Applicator applies it.

Performance in Production

  • Two coats go on wet on wet. The second coat goes down about 10 minutes after the first while the stone is still wet, and the excess gets polished off about 10 minutes after that. A kitchen gets sealed in one visit with no overnight wait between coats.
  • Don’t let the first coat dry before recoating. The 10-minute window assumes the surface still looks wet. On a warm top or in direct sun, work smaller sections.
  • The 75 sq ft figure is best case and matches polished marble. Polished granite runs about 60 sq ft per bottle at the chart’s minimum rate, and honed granite about 40. Use the coverage table below to quote bottles per job.
  • Stain-Proof recommends using an opened bottle within 7 days. Buy for the job in front of you and skip stocking opened partials.
  • Stain-Proof points this grade at problem stones that are hard to seal, like white granites, gray granites, and pietra serena.
  • It’s breathable, so water vapor can still leave the stone. That matters in showers and on tops over dishwashers, where moisture comes from below.
  • Keep the top dry for 6 hours after the final wipe. It’s usable at 24 hours, with full cure at up to 4 weeks, so tell the customer to wipe spills promptly during that first month.
  • It won’t stop etching, scuff marks, or wear, and it can lighten or darken some stones. Test a small area or an offcut and let it cure 24 hours before sealing the full top.
  • The solvent carrier is highly flammable. Ventilate, keep ignition sources away, and wear solvent-resistant gloves, eye protection, and an organic vapor respirator. Cover sinks, cabinets, and surrounding finishes against overspray.

25-Year Warranty and Shop Pricing for Fabricators

The 25-year written performance warranty comes from STAIN-PROOF. It applies when a STAIN-PROOF Accredited Applicator applies the sealer following their written instructions and the surface is maintained on their written maintenance system, as outlined in the STAIN-PROOF warranty document.

Accreditation runs through ICP University’s online training. The program covers surface prep, application technique, product selection, ongoing technical support, and access to the STAIN-PROOF warranty system for qualifying projects. See the STAIN-PROOF Accredited Applicator program. We’ll help your shop get set up. Call or email and we’ll walk you through it.

Fabricators and contractors who seal installs regularly or resell sealer to their customers can call or email for shop pricing.

How STAIN-PROOF Impregnating Sealer Works

An impregnating sealer goes into the stone instead of coating the surface. STAIN-PROOF uses modified silane technology built around small sealing molecules that travel into the pore structure, even in dense granite. Inside the pores, the molecules bond to the pore walls through a chemical reaction. That lines the pores with an oil- and water-repellent barrier below the surface while leaving them open, so water vapor can still escape.

  • Stain-Proof states its sealing molecules are approximately 400 times smaller than other impregnators, which lets them reach deeper into tight stone.
  • Dense Stone Impregnating Sealer uses three custom sealing molecules for three levels of penetration, including a super penetrator for dense granites and marbles.
  • The pores are lined, not plugged. Liquids are repelled from entering, and moisture inside the stone can still leave as vapor.
  • It controls absorption, not surface hardness. Acidic spills can still etch, and it won’t stop scuffs or wear.

How to Seal a Dense Stone Countertop

Dense stone takes less sealer than porous stone and has to be worked while the surface is still wet. These are Stain-Proof’s steps for this grade.

  1. Test a small area or an offcut first and let it cure 24 hours. Check for color change and ease of application.
  2. Make sure the surface is between 40 and 95°F (5 and 35°C) and is clean, dry, and free of residue. Don’t thin the sealer.
  3. Apply generously with a low-pressure hand sprayer, a clean brush, or a lamb’s wool applicator. The stone should hold a mirror-like wet look for 3 to 5 seconds. Keep it off surrounding finishes.
  4. Wait about 10 minutes, then apply the second coat before the surface dries.
  5. About 10 minutes after the final coat, before it dries, polish off the excess with a clean, dry white cloth. Dampen the cloth with a little sealer if the excess is hard to polish.
  6. Clean equipment with an organic solvent such as methylated spirits.
  7. Keep the surface dry for 6 hours. It can be used after 24 hours, and full cure takes up to 4 weeks.

For mosaic dense natural stone tile in wet areas, Stain-Proof calls for sealing all six sides or dip sealing for 20 to 30 seconds. Wipe off after 10 minutes and let the tile sit 24 hours before setting it with a premium polymer thinset.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Dense Stone Impregnating Sealer the same as Stain-Proof Plus?

Yes. STAIN-PROOF Dense Stone Impregnating Sealer is the current name for Dry-Treat Stain-Proof Plus, and it carries the same 110712 part number. It’s a different product from STAIN-PROOF Premium Impregnating Sealer, which was formerly Stain-Proof Original.

How long does Dense Stone Impregnating Sealer last on a countertop?

Stain-Proof backs it with a 25-year written performance warranty, the longest in the STAIN-PROOF sealer line. The warranty applies when an Accredited Applicator applies it and the top is maintained on Stain-Proof’s written maintenance system. Spills should still be wiped up promptly.

Can my fabrication shop offer the 25-year warranty?

Yes, once the shop becomes a STAIN-PROOF Accredited Applicator. Accreditation runs through ICP University’s online training and gives access to the warranty system for qualifying projects. Call or email us and we’ll help you get set up.

How much countertop does a 16 oz bottle cover?

Up to 75 sq ft over two coats, which matches polished marble. Polished granite runs about 60 sq ft per bottle and honed granite about 40 at Stain-Proof’s minimum rates. Check the coverage table above for your stone and finish.

Should I use Dense Stone or Premium Impregnating Sealer?

Use Dense Stone Impregnating Sealer for dense natural stone, especially countertops and hard-to-seal stones like white granites, gray granites, and pietra serena. Premium Impregnating Sealer is the all-purpose grade for rougher, more porous surfaces such as pavers, tile, grout, concrete, and masonry, and it carries a 15-year warranty.

Can I use it on engineered quartz or resined slabs?

For engineered quartz and porcelain, use STAIN-PROOF Porcelain and Quartz Sealer, because Dense Stone is formulated for natural stone. Stain-Proof doesn’t publish guidance on resined granite or quartzite for this grade. Test on an offcut, let it cure 24 hours before sealing the top, or call us.

Is Dense Stone Impregnating Sealer food safe?

Yes. Once cured, Stain-Proof rates it food contact safe. It will not prevent surface etching, scuff marks, or wear, so acidic spills can still etch marble.

Is Dense Stone Impregnating Sealer a nano sealer?

Stain-Proof doesn’t use the word nano for this grade. It reserves that term for its Porcelain and Quartz Sealer. For Dense Stone, it describes small-molecule modified silane technology with three molecule sizes, covered in the section above. The contents are ethanol, silane, and fluoropolymer, and it’s made in the USA with globally sourced materials.
