Description
CHT QGel 317 is a transparent silicone encapsulant for electronics, sensors, and small assemblies that need soft cushioning with a fast room-temperature cure. The two-part addition-cure gel mixes one to one by weight and is designed for mechanical dispensing, so it fits production cells that meter material into repeat cavities rather than hand-pouring every part.
Where This Encapsulant Is Used
QGel 317 protects delicate components from moisture, vibration, thermal movement, and mechanical shock while keeping the finished fill soft enough to move with the assembly. It is useful in sensor housings, connector backshells, LED modules, control boards, and compact electronic packages where a rigid epoxy could put stress into solder joints or leads. The transparent cure helps inspection teams see component placement, wire routing, and trapped air after filling.
The fast cure profile makes this grade a good fit for work that cannot wait through a full overnight room-temperature gel. Published specifications show a 7 minute gel time at 25 degrees C, with cure options at room temperature or elevated temperature. That lets a production team choose between bench cure for small batches and heat-assisted cure when the line needs faster handling.
Encapsulant Cure and Handling
Keep the A and B components capped until use, then meter or weigh equal parts into a clean static mixer or mixing cup. Fill from the lowest point of the cavity so air can move upward and out of the part. For narrow housings, dispense slowly and let the gel level before moving the assembly. Since silicone gels can be affected by contamination, keep sulfur, amines, uncured condensation silicones, oily residues, and unknown tapes away from the wet material.
