How a Bell Inlet Static Mixer Works on a Meter Mix Machine

A static mixer has no moving parts. Material is forced through a fixed spiral element that splits the stream and folds it back together at every segment. On a meter mix machine the mixer is the last thing the adhesive touches before it hits the part, so if it bypasses or plugs, you find out in the bond line.

• The machine proportions the A and B sides and feeds them to the valve or manifold block.
• The bell housing seats flat against the manifold face. A and B enter through separate ports, so the two sides do not meet upstream inside the manifold.
• A retaining nut, 7/8-9 or 7/8-14 thread, clamps the mixer to the face and holds it there under dispensing pressure.
• Material runs the 32 element spiral. Each element divides the stream and recombines it, so a 32 element housing puts material through more division stages than an 18 or 24 element mixer in the same 0.250 in bore.
• The slip luer outlet delivers the mixed material at 0.08 in. Press a luer dispensing tip on when the bead needs to be finer or needs to reach into a recess.
• At shutdown or a material change, back off the nut, pull the mixer, wipe the manifold face, and install a fresh one. Nothing cures inside the block.

A metal jacket is recommended over the mixer any time working pressure inside the nozzle will exceed 150 psi (10 bar). That situation comes up on meter mix valves and manifolds, not on hand cartridge work. If you are running high viscosity material through a long mixer at production rates, assume you need the jacket and confirm your machine’s operating pressure before you run it bare.
