Bonstone Clarion SF #9 High Viscosity Vinyl Ester Seam Adhesive – Quart Kit

This is the Quart Kit of Bonstone Clarion SF in the #9 High Viscosity grade. One quart can of Part A ships with the matched BPO cream hardener. #9 is the heaviest body of the three Clarion SF viscosities, and the reason to reach for it over #5 is not strength, it is hold. Where a joint is vertical, unsupported, or working against gravity with nothing underneath it, the extra body keeps the adhesive in the bond line instead of letting it creep out.

Same chemistry as the rest of the line: styrene-free vinyl ester, 98:2 with a BPO cream hardener, tintable with Bonstone Liquid Tints, and the same 85 to 90 Shore D, so it grinds and polishes at the seam exactly like #5 does. Interior applications, horizontal and vertical.

What is the difference between Clarion SF #9 and #5?

Body, and that is the only spec that changes. #9 is the heavier paste at 9.5 lb/gal against 9.35 for #5. Both are rated horizontal and vertical, both cure to 85 to 90 Shore D, both gel in 2.5 to 5 minutes, and both use the same 98:2 mix. Use #5 as the general seaming and mitering grade. Reach for #9 when the joint is unsupported or overhead and you need the adhesive to stay exactly where you put it. Neither is stronger than the other on the published data.

Does the #9 High Viscosity Quart Kit include the hardener?

Yes. The Quart Kit ships with 1 oz of BPO cream hardener alongside the quart can of Part A. The mix is 98 parts A to 2 parts B by volume, a golf ball of resin to a pea of hardener, and the ratio is the same across all three Clarion SF viscosities.

Will #9 hold on an unsupported miter?

#9 is rated for horizontal and vertical applications and it is the heaviest body Bonstone offers in this line, which is what it is built for. Bonstone does not publish a sag or slump figure for it, so on a long unsupported joint or an overhead bond, set up and test the joint the way you intend to run it before committing a top to it. Does #9 tint the same as #5?

Yes. Same base, very light and translucent, tinted with Bonstone Liquid Tints added to Part A and mixed to color before the hardener goes in. The heavier body takes a little more work to get the pigment fully dispersed, so mix it longer than you would #5 and check the color in a thin film on an offcut before you commit.
