Description
RTV159 silicone is a red, one-component, ready-to-use adhesive sealant supplied here in a 2.8 fl oz tube. It cures to a tough, resilient silicone rubber when exposed to atmospheric moisture at room temperature. The paste consistency makes it useful on horizontal, vertical, and overhead surfaces where a flowable compound would run. During cure it releases acetic acid vapor, so avoid use on corrosion-sensitive copper, brass, or delicate electronic parts unless the application has been qualified.
Where RTV159 silicone is used
This sealant is a fit for industrial bonding, sealing, insulating, and repair work that needs high strength plus heat resistance. Typical uses include sealing housings, bonding small parts, protecting assemblies from weather, and filling gaps where a non-flowable RTV is easier to control. The red color helps visual inspection, especially when the sealant is used around metal, machinery, or high-temperature service areas.
How RTV159 silicone performs
High-strength acetoxy RTV sealants cure from the outside inward, so bead size and access to moisture affect cure time. Apply to clean, dry surfaces and give the bead enough time to cure before loading the joint. The cured rubber keeps useful flexibility at low temperature and resists weathering, ozone, and many chemicals. For broad food-contact or electronics work, verify the exact regulatory and substrate needs before use.
