One Adhesive. Every Environment.

Understanding Integra® Horizon™ Methacrylate Adhesive for Indoor and Outdoor Fabrication

Integra Horizon

Surface fabricators and installers are being asked to do more than ever before. Materials continue to evolve, projects increasingly move outdoors, and expectations for durability, aesthetics, and consistency remain high. At the same time, environmental conditions, from temperature swings to UV exposure, introduce variables that many traditional adhesives were never designed to handle.

Integra® Horizon™ Methacrylate Adhesive was developed to address these realities. Designed as a single, production-ready solution for both interior and exterior applications, Horizon combines structural performance, weather resistance, and color stability into one adhesive system. The result is a dependable bonding solution that performs where standard adhesives often fall short.

The Challenge of Bonding Across Environments

Many fabrication adhesives perform well in controlled indoor environments but struggle once exposed to outdoor conditions. UV radiation can cause yellowing or degradation. Moisture and temperature cycling can compromise bond integrity. Even within fabrication shops, inconsistent working times or sagging formulations can slow production and introduce rework.

For fabricators working with quartz, porcelain, sintered stone, and natural stone, these challenges are magnified. These dense, engineered materials demand adhesives that can deliver both strength and stability without sacrificing appearance or efficiency.

Integra Horizon was engineered specifically to bridge this gap—providing reliable performance from the fabrication floor to long-term outdoor installations.

What Is Integra® Horizon™?

Integra Horizon is a high-performance, two-part methacrylate adhesive with a 10:1 mix ratio, supplied in a 250 mL cartridge format. It is designed for structural bonding applications across a wide range of interior and exterior surface fabrication projects.

From a formulation standpoint, Horizon builds on methacrylate adhesive chemistry, which is known for strong adhesion to difficult substrates, fast fixture times, and excellent durability. Horizon advances this technology by optimizing UV resistance, color stability, and handling characteristics to meet modern fabrication demands.

Key Performance Characteristics

Engineered for indoor and outdoor use. Reliable in any condition

All-Weather Performance

Horizon is engineered to maintain consistent bond strength across a broad range of environmental conditions. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, with proven performance through temperature cycling, moisture exposure, and varying climates. This makes it well suited for projects that transition from controlled shop environments to unpredictable outdoor installations.

UV Resistant

High UV Resistance and Color Stability

One of the most common failure points for exterior adhesives is UV exposure. Over time, sunlight can cause discoloration, cracking, or loss of integrity. Horizon is formulated to resist UV degradation, helping maintain both structural performance and visual appearance over the life of the installation.

For fabricators focused on seam quality and aesthetics, this UV resistance supports long-term color stability, even in sun-exposed applications such as outdoor kitchens or pool surrounds.

Proven Structural Strength

According to technical performance data, Integra Horizon delivers flexural strength exceeding 4,000 psi across a range of common surface materials, including quartz, porcelain, sintered stone, and natural stone. This level of structural integrity supports demanding applications such as miter joints, vertical assemblies, and load-bearing seams.

No-Sag, Production-Ready Formulation

Horizon features a no-sag formulation that supports vertical applications without slumping or running. Combined with its controlled working and fixture times, this allows fabricators to work efficiently while maintaining precise alignment and clean seams.

The 10:1 cartridge system ensures consistent mixing and dispensing, reducing variability and supporting repeatable results in production environments.

Application Efficiency and Handling

Working and Fixture Times

Horizon offers a working time of approximately 9–14 minutes and a fixture time of 20–30 minutes under recommended conditions. This balance provides enough open time for proper alignment while still supporting efficient throughput in fabrication and installation workflows.

Dispensing and Mixing

Designed for use with Integra-approved 10:1 cartridge dispensers, the gun automatically meters and mixes the adhesive for consistent color and cure. Once mixed, the adhesive is applied in a consistent bead, with light squeeze-out indicating sufficient coverage.

Excess material can be removed within the working time, and full cure allows for final finishing and cleanup without compromising the bond.

Storage and Shelf Life

Horizon should be stored upright in a cool, dry environment between 60–80°F (16–27°C). Under proper storage conditions, it offers a shelf life of up to one year. Avoiding excessive heat or freezing is critical to maintaining expected working and cure properties.

Substrate Compatibility

Integra Horizon is engineered for strong adhesion to a wide range of common surfacing materials, including:

  • Quartz and engineered stone
  • Porcelain and ceramic surfaces
  • Sintered stone
  • Natural stone substrates

As with any structural adhesive, proper surface preparation is essential. Bonding surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, or debris. Wiping with isopropyl or denatured alcohol prior to bonding is recommended, along with performing a test bond to confirm compatibility and color match.

Color Matching Capabilities

Integra Adhesives is known throughout the surfacing industry for its color-matching expertise, and Horizon is compatible with Integra’s extensive color systems. With access to 100 color options, fabricators can achieve clean, visually consistent seams across a wide range of popular surface brands.

This focus on color matching is particularly important in high-visibility applications such as countertops, waterfall edges, and vertical cladding, where seam appearance is just as critical as structural performance.

Common Applications

Integra Horizon is suited for a wide range of fabrication and installation scenarios, including:

  • Seam bonding and deck seams in countertop fabrication
  • Laminating build-ups and edge details
  • Miter joints and vertical cladding assemblies, including fireplace surrounds
  • Outdoor fabrications such as pool edges, outdoor kitchens, exterior trim, and flooring applications

Its ability to perform consistently across these varied applications allows fabricators to standardize on a single adhesive for both indoor and outdoor projects.

Health, Safety, and Handling Considerations

As a methacrylate-based adhesive, Horizon should be used with appropriate safety precautions. According to the Safety Data Sheet, the product contains methyl methacrylate and should be handled in well-ventilated areas. Personal protective equipment such as gloves and eye protection is recommended during use.

Proper storage, handling, and disposal practices should always follow SDS guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.

Replacing Legacy Adhesives

Integra Horizon serves as the direct replacement for Integra Zero and Integra Ultra, which are being discontinued. For fabricators familiar with these products, Horizon offers a seamless transition with expanded performance capabilities, particularly in terms of environmental resistance and long-term durability.

By consolidating performance into a single adhesive platform, Horizon simplifies material selection while enhancing reliability across a wider range of applications.

Conclusion

Integra® Horizon™ Methacrylate Adhesive reflects the evolving needs of modern surface fabrication. By combining structural strength, UV resistance, color stability, and production efficiency into one solution, it enables fabricators and installers to bond with confidence—indoors or outdoors, in controlled environments or challenging conditions.

For shops and installers seeking to standardize their adhesive systems without compromising performance, Horizon offers a versatile, future-ready option designed to perform wherever the job takes place.
