Description

This 25ml hand syringe contains Chem-Set 605 in natural, a toughened two-part methacrylate that produces load-bearing bonds to engineered plastics, metals, and composites. Both parts dispense in equal amounts for hand mixing, so no gun, cartridge, or static mixer is needed. Working time is 4 to 6 minutes with fixture in 10 to 15 minutes at room temperature. Minimal surface preparation is required, and it bonds poorly prepared surfaces and dissimilar materials where outdoor weathering or solvent exposure is expected.

Substrates

  • PVC, ABS, PPO, and polycarbonate
  • Fiberglass, FRP, and gel coats
  • Polyesters and vinyl esters
  • Styrenics and acrylics
  • Urethanes and RIM urethane
  • Cured epoxy
  • Wood
  • Aluminum, carbon steel, and stainless steel, primer suggested
  • Poorly prepared and as-received surfaces

Mixing and Application

Squeeze equal amounts of both parts into a small container and mix thoroughly with a mixing stick until the color is completely uniform, then apply immediately. Working time is 4 to 6 minutes and mixing falls inside that window, so have surfaces cleaned and parts ready before you start. Apply to one surface as an even film or bead, mate the parts, and hold firm pressure. A small fillet squeezing out the edges confirms adequate gap fill. Leave the parts undisturbed until fixture time is reached.

Surface Preparation

Solvent-wipe grease, oil, dirt, and other contaminants. On metal, abrading or roughening the surface increases bond strength. On aluminum and stainless, a metal conditioner improves overlap shear meaningfully and is worth the extra step on structural joints.

Working Notes

  • No dispense gun, cartridge, or static mixer required, which suits service calls and jobs away from the shop.
  • Non-sagging gel holds position on vertical and overhead bond lines.
  • Bond line thickness of 0.015 to 0.030 in gives optimum adhesion. Thicker is not stronger.
  • Mix only what you can place inside the working time.
  • Clean up before the adhesive cures. Soap and water works, as do citrus terpene or NMP-based cleaners. Cured material has to be scraped.
  • Withstands processing forces once cured. Do not drop, shock load, or heavily load.
  • Intermittent exposure above 250°F does not reduce performance.

Common Applications

  • Bonding PVC, ABS, and polycarbonate parts and assemblies
  • Fiberglass and FRP panel repair and bonding
  • Gel coat repair on marine and transportation components
  • Bonding aluminum and stainless steel to plastics and composites
  • Sign and display fabrication on acrylic and styrenic sheet
  • Glue-on sink anchor mounting on solid surface, quartz, and engineered stone
  • Field and service repair where no dispensing equipment is available
  • Small assemblies, prototyping, and bond validation work
  • Exterior assemblies exposed to weathering or solvent contact

Common Questions

What does Chem-Set 605 bond?
PVC, ABS, PPO, polycarbonate, fiberglass, FRP, gel coats, polyesters, vinyl esters, styrenics, acrylics, urethanes, cured epoxy, wood, and metals including aluminum and stainless steel. It also bonds dissimilar material combinations such as metal to plastic.

Do I need a dispense gun for the 25ml?
No. Both parts dispense from the syringe for hand mixing in a cup. No gun, cartridge, or static mixer is required.

How long before I can handle the part?
Fixture time is 10 to 15 minutes at 72°F. Functional cure is 45 minutes to 1 hour, and full cure is 24 hours.

Does it need surface preparation?
Minimal. Solvent-wipe contaminants and the adhesive bonds as-received surfaces. On aluminum and stainless, a metal conditioner improves overlap shear.
