Description

The Chem-Set F2-SB30 bonding fastener gives fabricators a no-drill way to add a threaded mounting point to sheet metal, stone, composite panel, and other flat substrates. A female-threaded collar sits on a 30mm round baseplate that bonds directly to the surface with structural adhesive, so there is no through-hole, no backside access requirement, and no risk of weakening thin panel stock with a drilled opening.

How the Chem-Set F2-SB30 bonding fastener mounts

The 30mm baseplate spreads clamping and vibration load across a wide bonding footprint compared with a mechanical fastener of the same thread size. Installers prep the bond area, apply a compatible structural or epoxy adhesive, and set the baseplate in place. Once the adhesive cures, the collar accepts a standard bolt in whichever thread size was ordered, and the connection behaves like any threaded insert from that point forward.

Adhesive choice depends on substrate and load. Two-part epoxies handle most metal and composite bonding jobs, while methacrylate adhesives set faster and tolerate less-than-perfect surface prep, which matters on a field repair. Surface prep, mainly degreasing and light abrasion, has more influence on final holding strength than the adhesive brand, so it is worth the extra five minutes before the collar goes down.

Common thread and length combinations are listed below. Every combination is available in Mild Steel or Stainless Steel base material with several plating options, so the fastener can be matched to the corrosion resistance and finish the application calls for.

Thread Common Lengths (inches)
10-24 0.250 1.000 2.000 3.000
10-32 0.250 1.000 2.000 3.000
1/4-20 0.250 1.000 2.000 3.000
3/8-16 0.250 1.000 2.000 3.000

Where the Chem-Set F2-SB30 bonding fastener earns its keep

Fabricators reach for a bonding fastener like the F2-SB30 whenever drilling is off the table: finished stone and countertop assemblies, thin-gauge sheet metal panels where a hole would show or weaken the part, composite and honeycomb panel construction, and repairs where the backside of the panel is not accessible for a nut or backing plate. Because the mounting point is added after the panel is finished, it also works well as a field fix for a stripped or damaged threaded hole.

Base material selection matters as much as thread size. Mild steel base plates are the economical choice for indoor or coated applications, while stainless steel base plates hold up in wash-down, marine, or outdoor exposure without a secondary coating step. Choosing 10-24 or 10-32 keeps the footprint small for lighter panel hardware, while 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 carry higher structural loads for brackets, standoffs, and heavier mounted components.
