Description

The Chem-Set 160-624 static mixer is a 24 element disposable spiral mixer with a bell housing inlet and a slip luer outlet. It runs on 200, 400, and 600 cc dual cartridges and on meter mix machines. The bell inlet is what matters on a machine. It seats against the manifold face and ports the A and B sides separately into the mixer instead of letting them meet inside the manifold, which is where material gels and plugs the block. The tapered slip luer outlet lays down a controlled bead or takes a press-fit tip or spreader. It is an alternative to the Nordson 7700837.

Performance in Production

  • Twenty-four elements in a 0.251 in bore is the middle length in this family. It handles most 1:1 and 2:1 work without the added purge volume of a longer mixer.
  • The element is a tight fit inside the polypropylene casing, which keeps material moving through the element instead of slipping past it.
  • At 4.2 ml retained, this is roughly half the purge of the 32 element 160-632 on the same bore. On short runs and frequent changeovers that is where the savings show up.
  • Tapered slip luer outlet at 0.076 in lays a controlled bead straight off the mixer, and it accepts a press-fit dispensing tip or a spreader when the job needs one.
  • Bell housing keeps the mix point inside the disposable part. The manifold stays clean and the mixer is the consumable.
  • Changeover is mechanical, not chemical. Back off the nut, pull, wipe the face, replace. No solvent flush of the block between runs.

Common Applications

  • Meter mix dispensing of two part epoxy, urethane, silicone, and methacrylate
  • Production assembly lines running bulk adhesive through a valve or manifold
  • Precision bead work where a tip or spreader attaches to the outlet
  • Potting and encapsulating operations
  • Carbon fiber and composite layup meter mix equipment
  • 200, 400, and 600 cc dual cartridge dispensing with a bell mount gun

Cross-Reference and Alternative Part Numbers

The Chem-Set 160-624 is an alternative to the Nordson 7700837, also sold as the TAH 160-624. Same 24 element spiral construction, same bell housing inlet and slip luer outlet, and built for the same 200, 400, and 600 cc cartridges and meter mix manifolds. It is also used in place of bell inlet mixing nozzles supplied for 3M two part cartridge systems. We stock the Nordson branded part as well if your process is specified to it: Nordson 7700837 | TAH 160-624 Static Mixing Nozzle.

Test the mixer in your process before committing a production run to it.

How a Bell Inlet Static Mixer Works on a Meter Mix Machine

A static mixer has no moving parts. Material is forced through a fixed spiral element that splits the stream and folds it back together at every segment. On a meter mix machine the mixer is the last thing the adhesive touches before it hits the part, so if it bypasses or plugs, you find out in the bond line.

  • The machine proportions the A and B sides and feeds them to the valve or manifold block.
  • The bell housing seats flat against the manifold face. A and B enter through separate ports, so the two sides do not meet upstream inside the manifold.
  • A retaining nut, 7/8-9 or 7/8-14 thread, clamps the mixer to the face and holds it there under dispensing pressure.
  • Material runs the 24 element spiral. Each element divides the stream and recombines it, so more elements means more division stages in the same bore.
  • The tapered slip luer outlet delivers the mixed material at 0.076 in. Press a luer dispensing tip on when the bead needs to be finer or needs to reach into a recess.
  • At shutdown or a material change, back off the nut, pull the mixer, wipe the manifold face, and install a fresh one. Nothing cures inside the block.

A metal jacket is recommended over the mixer any time working pressure inside the nozzle will exceed 150 psi (10 bar). That situation comes up on meter mix valves and manifolds, not on hand cartridge work. If you are running high viscosity material through a long mixer at production rates, assume you need the jacket and confirm your machine’s operating pressure before you run it bare.

Materials commonly run through this mixer include two part epoxies, polyurethanes, silicones, and methyl methacrylates.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Chem-Set 160-624 static mixer used for?

It mixes two part adhesive on meter mix machines and on 200, 400, and 600 cc dual cartridges. The 24 element spiral in a 0.251 in bore handles epoxy, polyurethane, silicone, and methyl methacrylate at 1:1 and 2:1.

Is the Chem-Set 160-624 an alternative to the Nordson 7700837?

Yes. It is an alternative to the Nordson 7700837, also known as the TAH 160-624, built with the same 24 element spiral, bell housing inlet, and slip luer outlet for the same cartridge sizes and meter mix manifolds. Nordson is the trademark owner of that part number. We carry the Nordson branded version too, so if your process paperwork calls it out by name you can order either one from us. Run a test before a production changeover.

Should I use the 160-624 or the 160-632?

Element count and purge volume decide it. Both run the same bore off the same cartridges. The 624 has 24 elements and retains about 4.2 ml. The 632 has 32 elements and is longer, so it mixes more thoroughly but holds more material you have to purge. Start with the 624 and step up to the 632 if you see streaking or if the ratio is off 1:1.

What cartridge sizes does the 160-624 fit?

200, 400, and 600 cc dual cartridges with a bell mount, plus meter mix machine manifolds and valves. The bell housing connection is 0.657 in (16.7 mm) and it retains with a 7/8-9 or 7/8-14 nut.

What mix ratios does the 160-624 work with?

1:1 and 2:1. If you are running a ratio further off balance than that, call us before you order and we will point you at the right element count and bore for it.

What is a slip luer outlet?

It is a tapered outlet that a dispensing tip presses onto by friction rather than threading on. Slip luer, luer slip, and tapered tip all describe the same fitting. It is faster to change than a luer lock and it works for most bead work. Choose luer lock instead when the tip has to stay put under pressure.

What is a bell inlet static mixer?

It is a mixer with a flared bell shaped inlet that mounts flat to a manifold face or a large cartridge and takes the A and B sides in through separate ports. Bell mixer, bell mount mixer, bell housing mixer, spiral bell mixer, motionless mixer, and static mix nozzle all describe the same part. The point of the bell is to move the mix point out of the manifold and into the disposable nozzle.

Can the 160-624 be reused?

No. It is disposable and single use. The element is polyacetal inside a polypropylene casing, and once adhesive starts to set inside it there is no practical way to clear it. Plan consumption into the job rather than trying to stretch one mixer across runs.
