Description
CHT primer 5 is a clear silicone adhesion primer for preparing smooth plastic and optical substrates before compatible silicone elastomers are applied. It is especially useful on polycarbonate and acrylic parts where a visible primer stain, haze, crack, or craze would be unacceptable in the finished assembly.
Where CHT primer 5 is used
Use this primer on clean, dry acrylic, polycarbonate, and similar non-porous surfaces before addition-cure or condensation-cure silicone sealants, encapsulants, or elastomers. The product is a one-component reactive silane solution carried in alcohols. After a thin coat is applied, the carrier flashes off and leaves a bonding layer that helps the silicone wet the surface and develop adhesion during cure.
How CHT primer 5 performs
CHT data list QSil Primer No. 5 as transparent to pale yellow, liquid, and suited to optical applications. The cure profile depends on humidity above 40 percent, so plant conditions should be checked when a new substrate or silicone system is qualified. Apply only a light film. A heavy coat can leave residue, slow dry time, or reduce optical clarity instead of improving the bond.
Store the container closed and protect it from repeated air exposure. Primers are process-sensitive materials, so technicians should confirm flash time on the actual line before approving a new assembly. When the part is transparent, test a hidden area first and inspect it after cure under the same light used for quality control.
