Description

CHT Group QSil Primer No. 6 is a clear silicone adhesion primer for shops bonding RTV silicone elastomers to low-energy or non-porous surfaces. QSil Primer 6 uses reactive silanes in a volatile solvent carrier that dries to a bonding layer for silicone, acrylic, polycarbonate, metal, and other smooth substrates.

QSil Primer 6 Benefits

  • Reactive silane chemistry helps silicone elastomers bond to difficult non-porous surfaces.
  • Clear to pale yellow liquid supports optical work where haze, cracking, or crazing cannot be accepted.
  • Thirty minute tack-free time gives technicians a defined window before sealant or elastomer placement.
  • Two year shelf life supports maintenance stock and repeat production use.
  • Low-solids liquid applies by lint-free cloth or brush without heavy film build.

Use this primer when a silicone bond line needs help on smooth materials rather than on porous parts that already accept adhesive well. It is especially useful when production teams need cleaner adhesion on polycarbonate guards, acrylic windows, metal housings, silicone rubber, and fixture components.

Where QSil Primer 6 Fits

  • Silicone elastomer bonding to polycarbonate and acrylic parts.
  • RTV silicone sealing on metal housings and brackets.
  • Condensation cure or addition cure silicone work where a primer is specified.
  • Optical assemblies that need a clear primer film.
  • Prototype testing before moving a silicone bond into production.

Surface Preparation and Use

Start with dry parts that are free of grease, oil, dust, mold release, and cutting fluid. Degrease non-porous surfaces with a compatible solvent, then let the surface dry before primer is applied. Use a lint-free cloth or clean brush and apply a thin, even film.

Do not flood the part. Heavy primer can hurt adhesion and leave residue. Let the primer dry at room temperature in a well ventilated area before applying silicone, and run a small adhesion test before committing customer parts.

Technical Details and Documentation

CHT lists QSil Primer No. 6 as a reactive silane solution with 2 percent solids, 0.82 specific gravity, transparent to pale yellow color, and 30 minute tack-free time at 23 C. Review CHT guidance through CHT Group and confirm the TDS and SDS before production use.
