Description
Devcon Carbide Putty is a silicon carbide-filled epoxy putty for protecting process equipment from sliding abrasion, slurry wear, and small-particle attack. The 20 lb kit is sized for maintenance teams repairing pipe elbows, chutes, housings, pulverizers, cyclone areas, and other surfaces that see aggressive wear.
Devcon Carbide Putty Applications
- Repairing worn metal surfaces where abrasion has removed material.
- Lining pipe elbows, slurry lines, chutes, separators, and exhauster fan areas.
- Protecting equipment that handles particles smaller than 1/16 inch.
- Rebuilding plant parts during planned maintenance shutdowns.
- Adding a trowel-applied wear surface where welding or replacement is less practical.
ITW Performance Polymers describes this Devcon grade as an economical wear compound with excellent abrasion resistance in aggressive industrial environments. Published product data lists a 50 minute open time, 0.25 inch to 1.5 inch plus gap fill range, and continuous service temperature up to 250°F after cure.
Devcon Carbide Putty Handling Notes
Surface preparation drives the repair. Remove oil, loose rust, scale, dust, and failed coating before applying the mixed epoxy. Roughen the surface so the putty has a mechanical profile, then clean again before mixing. Pre-fit tools, dams, and forms before opening the kit so material can be placed within the working window.
Apply the compound by trowel and press it into the prepared surface. Build thickness where wear is concentrated, then shape the surface to reduce ledges that catch material flow. Let the repair cure before returning the equipment to load, temperature, or chemical exposure.
