Description
Devcon FL-20 Primer is a 4 oz adhesion promoter for Flexane urethane repair systems. It is used before applying Flexane to rubber, concrete, wood, fiberglass, and cured urethane, helping maintenance teams build a stronger bond between the repair compound and the prepared substrate.
Devcon FL-20 Primer Uses
This primer is a fit for belt, lining, chute, roller, tank, and equipment repairs where Flexane is being bonded to a surface that needs chemical preparation after cleaning and abrasion. ITW’s Flexane primer data identifies FL-20 for rubber surfaces, concrete, wood, fiberglass, cured Flexane, and immersion systems where FL-10 is used first on metal and FL-20 follows after the required dry time. That makes it useful for field repairs where the surface may be porous, flexible, or previously rebuilt.
Devcon FL-20 Primer Prep Notes
Good repair results still depend on surface preparation. Remove oil, loose material, and embedded contamination, then abrade the substrate as directed before priming. Concrete may require multiple coats because it is porous, and wood may need extra primer on softwood surfaces. For related bonding prep products, see Chemical Concepts primers and accelerators.
Ordering And Field Notes
Keep primer close to the repair kit so the technician does not prepare a surface and then wait on missing material. Confirm dry time, coat count, and substrate sequence before applying Flexane, especially for immersed metal or porous concrete. Store the can as directed and rotate inventory because primers have a defined shelf life. For safety, handling, and application limits, read the data sheet before work begins and make sure the repair area is ventilated.
Use the primer only after the substrate has been cleaned and profiled. A neat primer step is not a substitute for sanding, blasting, or degreasing. It is the bond-prep layer that follows those steps and helps the repair material wet the surface properly.
