Description
Araldite AV 8503 is a two-component epoxy paste with a one-to-one by volume mix ratio for fast bonding of sheet molding compound, plastics, and metal parts. Huntsman states that this grade fixes itself in one minute on a heated fixture at 240 F and needs only a dry wipe for surface preparation before bonding, which makes it useful for molded part assembly where cycle time matters.
Araldite AV 8503 Benefits
- One-to-one mix ratio keeps meter and mix setup simple for cartridge or controlled shop application.
- Fast heated-fixture response supports shorter hold time on SMC and plastic assemblies.
- Paste consistency helps the adhesive stay where it is placed on vertical or shaped parts.
- Good flexibility and heat resistance suit molded components that see movement or service heat.
- Minimal surface prep can reduce labor on repeatable production joints when substrate condition is consistent.
This epoxy is aimed at industrial equipment and molded-part manufacturing where SMC remains a common substrate. The Huntsman technical page also lists compatibility with plastics and metal, so the product can fit brackets, inserts, housings, and hybrid assemblies that need a bond line with more body than a thin liquid adhesive. It is especially relevant where a heated fixture is already part of the process.
Araldite AV 8503 Applications
- Bonding sheet molding compound panels and molded housings.
- Joining plastic parts to metal inserts or brackets.
- Assembly work that uses heated fixtures to shorten clamp or hold time.
- Industrial equipment components that need a paste epoxy with some flexibility.
- Repair or build processes where dry-wipe prep is preferred over a longer surface treatment step.
Huntsman publishes test data that includes T-peel strength under ASTM D-1876, wedge test values under SAE J882, and impact strength under GM 9751 P, which gives engineers a starting point for lab review before release. Even so, production teams should confirm cure cycle, bond gap, and substrate condition on their own parts before changing over from another epoxy or acrylic system.
