Description
Integra RD50 rodding adhesive is made for embedding steel or fiberglass reinforcing rods in routed countertop channels. The methacrylate-based material comes in a 500 mL dual-component cartridge with four X-Stream mixer tips, giving stone fabricators a metered way to fill grooves and wet the reinforcement without hand measuring. It is intended for granite, quartz surfacing, engineered stone, and natural stone fabrication where rodding helps strengthen narrow sections around sink and cooktop cutouts.
Where Integra RD50 Rodding Adhesive Is Used
RD50 supports shop workflows that reinforce fragile countertop areas before transport and installation. Common locations include the front and back rails around sink openings, narrow bridges beside cooktop cutouts, long unsupported runs, and repaired sections that need added resistance to flexing. Compatible reinforcement shapes include steel flat bar, rectangular and round steel rods, and fiberglass flat stock when the groove and rod dimensions are prepared for full adhesive contact.
Cut the channel to accept the selected rod with space for a continuous bond line. Remove slurry, stone dust, oil, and loose particles. The technical data includes examples for both dry and wet-cut granite, but moisture condition changes measured performance. A shop should validate its own stone, groove profile, cleaning method, and reinforcement before standardizing the process.
How This Rodding Adhesive Handles
Load the 10:1 cartridge in a compatible dispenser, attach a fresh X-Stream static mixer, and dispense enough material to confirm a uniform mix before filling the groove. Place the rod while the material is workable and keep it seated until fixture strength develops. The mapped RD50 technical document gives a working time of 5 to 10 minutes and a fixture time of 15 to 20 minutes. Temperature affects both windows, with warmer material curing faster and cooler conditions slowing the reaction.
The document recommends a bond line of 0.5 to 1.5 mm and an optimum 10:1 mix ratio by volume. A 500 mL cartridge can provide an estimated 75 ft of yield when used with the referenced 4 mm by 12 mm groove and 3 mm by 10.5 mm rod geometry. Treat that figure as a planning estimate because actual groove size, purge volume, and filling technique change consumption.
Keep the mixer buried in the groove while dispensing to reduce trapped air, then tool the surface so the reinforcement stays covered. Replace a mixer after a pause that approaches the material’s working window. A partially cured element increases backpressure and can disturb ratio or flow at the next start.
