Mactac IM1863 Double Coated PE Foam Tape, 1/16 in, 1 in x 108 ft (Macmount 555, Macbond Ultra 555)

Description

The IM1863 foam tape doubles the cushion of its 1/32 inch sibling, pairing a 1/16 inch white PE foam carrier with the MP555 Ultra 555 permanent rubber adhesive at 2.6 mils per side. Combined carrier and adhesive caliper is 66.50 mils. The 78# SCK liner releases at medium tension for hand application and die cutting alike, and the roll runs 1 inch wide by 108 feet on a plastic core.

Where the IM1863 foam tape gets used

Thickness is the reason to reach for it. A 1/16 inch foam closes gaps that a thin film tape cannot, so it suits mounting over weld beads, extrusion draft, textured wall finishes, and panel edges that are not quite coplanar. Common work includes signage and display mounting, appliance trim and badge attachment, soap and sanitizer dispenser mounting, mirror mounting, and bonding decorative paneling to framing. The extra foam absorbs more vibration, which matters on HVAC panels, equipment covers, and ductwork where a rattling skin turns into a service call. Fabricators die cut it into pads and gaskets for the same reason, since the carrier holds its shape through a rotary die without tearing at the kiss cut.

How the IM1863 foam tape holds up

Peel adhesion on stainless steel measures 8 lbs/in under PSTC-101 Method A, with 10 lbs/in loop tack under PSTC-16. Under PSTC-107 with a 1 kg load at 72F the bond passes 500 hours without shear failure. Tensile strength runs 129 lbs/in in the machine direction and 96 lbs/in cross direction, with 232 percent elongation machine direction, so the tape stretches around a radius instead of splitting. Apply at 50F or warmer. In service the bond holds from -40F to 190F, and the adhesive resists water, so restroom and kitchen fixtures stay put without a sealant bead. Between the two Ultra 555 foam grades, specify this 1/16 inch carrier when the substrate is out of plane by more than a few thousandths of an inch, and drop to the 1/32 inch grade for flat drywall and sheet metal.

The 1 inch by 108 foot roll is the standard slit width.
