Description
This piston O-ring seals the bore of a Techcon TS1400 series dispensing valve, keeping material pressurized behind the piston instead of bypassing it on the down stroke. It is one of the dispensing valve parts that determine whether a rebuilt valve holds pressure and delivers a consistent shot size, or starts weeping fluid past the piston within a few thousand cycles. The ring measures 5/32 in ID by 1/16 in cross section, molded in Buna-N, and is sold in packs of 10 so a maintenance bench can rebuild several valves from one pack.
Dispensing Valve Parts: Where This O-Ring Fits
TS1400 series valves deliver viscous adhesives, sealants, caulks, and heavy lubricants at a controlled pressure and flow rate, using a piston that strokes inside a close-tolerance bore. The piston O-ring is the seal between that piston and the bore wall. When a valve starts under-dispensing, trailing a string of material after the shot, or losing pressure between cycles, a worn or chemically swollen piston O-ring is one of the first wear items a maintenance tech checks before replacing the whole valve body.
How These Dispensing Valve Parts Hold Up in Service
Buna-N (nitrile) is a general-purpose elastomer with solid resistance to petroleum oils, greases, and many hydrocarbon-based adhesives and lubricants, which is why it is the default piston seal material for most TS1400 builds. Cross section and ID are held to the same tolerance as the original Techcon piston bore, so the ring seats correctly without extra stretch or a loose fit that would let material bypass the piston. Replacing the O-ring at the same interval as other wear parts, rather than waiting for a visible leak, keeps shot-to-shot volume consistent across a production run.
Before installing, wipe the piston bore clean of old material and check the new ring for nicks picked up in shipping or storage. A light film of compatible lubricant on the ring eases seating and reduces the chance of pinching it against the bore wall during assembly. If a ring comes out swollen, brittle, or visibly softened at teardown, that is a sign the fluid being dispensed is attacking that material, and it is worth reviewing the O-ring material choice rather than just swapping in the same part again.
