Description
Permabond 801 Adhesive is a low-viscosity modified ethyl cyanoacrylate for rapid bonding where higher-temperature resistance is required. The single-component adhesive cures quickly when pressed into a thin film between close-fitting parts and has good adhesion to rubber, metal, and compatible plastics.
Where Permabond 801 Adhesive Fits
Permabond 801 is a wicking-type grade with a typical viscosity of 10 to 15 cP and a maximum published gap fill of about 0.05 mm (0.002 in). That makes it best suited to small components, narrow interfaces, fitted rubber parts, metal assemblies, housings, clips, and compatible plastic parts where the adhesive can wet a close bond line.
The manufacturer rates the grade for high-temperature resistance to about 130°C (266°F) in its product selector. Brief exposure above that temperature may be possible under the TDS conditions when the joint is not highly stressed, but actual temperature capability depends on substrate, joint design, load, and exposure duration. Production assemblies should be qualified under the temperatures and loads they will actually see.
Cure and Application
Cyanoacrylates cure through trace surface moisture. Permabond lists typical steel handling time of about 10 to 15 seconds and full strength after 24 hours under its test conditions. Cure speed changes with substrate, humidity, temperature, gap, and applied amount. Larger gaps, acidic surfaces, or difficult plastics may require a different grade, primer, or activator.
Bonding surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of oils, release agents, dust, and loose contamination. Apply only enough material to wet the joint, assemble promptly, and hold alignment until handling strength develops. Confirm plastic compatibility because some molded plastics may be susceptible to stress cracking.
