Description

CHT QSil 229 is a clear to cloudy, two-part silicone encapsulant for potting optical and electronic assemblies that need flow around complex parts. The 1:1 addition-cure system is heat cured, forms a 65 Shore A elastomer, and supports electrical insulation plus shock resistance in protected components.

QSil 229 Benefits

  • Clear to cloudy cured appearance supports optical assemblies, light guides, displays, sensors, and potted electronics where visual inspection matters.
  • Low viscosity helps the mixed silicone move around detailed component geometry before cure.
  • Low linear shrinkage helps reduce stress on embedded parts during the heat-cure cycle.
  • Primerless adhesion can simplify approved assemblies when the substrate package has been tested for bond performance.
  • The cured elastomer offers hydrolytic stability and reversion resistance for demanding service environments.

This material is built for potting work where a liquid rubber must flow into cavities, surround leads or fragile parts, then cure into a resilient protective mass. It is commonly selected for LEDs, optoelectronics, power modules, sensors, and assemblies where transparency, electrical insulation, and vibration damping all matter. Mix and dispense the two components in equal ratio, degas when bubbles would affect the finished part, and cure with heat according to the process window approved for the assembly.

Common Applications for QSil 229

  • Optical potting for LED and lighting components that need a transparent silicone fill.
  • Encapsulation for circuit assemblies that need electrical insulation and mechanical cushioning.
  • Shock-resistant protection for small parts with uneven geometry or tight spaces.
  • Potting of assemblies where low shrinkage and clear appearance are both important.

Compatible Materials and Processing

  • Designed for two-part metering and mixing equipment, or careful hand mixing for smaller batches.
  • Use clean vessels, clean tools, and compatible surfaces because addition-cure silicones can be inhibited by certain contaminants.
  • Degas components or mixed material when trapped air would affect optical clarity, insulation, or finished appearance.
  • Confirm adhesion on production substrates before releasing a new design or changing the cure schedule.
