Description

The CHT QSil 940 encapsulant is a white, two-component condensation-cure siloxane elastomer for potting, molding, and protective fill applications. It is a special-purpose silicone that naturally offers release properties unless a primer is used, which makes it useful when the cured part may need to separate from a tool, mold, or temporary surface. When adhesion is required, the system can be paired with the appropriate primer so the cured elastomer grips the substrate instead of releasing cleanly.

Where this encapsulant fits

QSil 940 works in electronics, fixtures, and specialty assemblies where a soft silicone fill is needed but the process may need control over release versus adhesion. The white base and transparent catalyst packaging helps operators see the mix before use, while the two-part format gives better processing control than a one-part moisture cure material in deep sections. The product is also suited to applications that require broad temperature exposure after cure, provided the assembly has been qualified with the actual substrates, geometry, and service conditions.

Use this compound when the job calls for a silicone elastomer rather than a hard epoxy potting compound. It can help protect components from movement and environmental exposure while maintaining a compliant body around delicate features. For production work, confirm the primer plan first. A release surface and an adhesion surface can look similar before fill, so the shop procedure should clearly state where primer is applied, where it is omitted, and how the assembly is inspected before dispensing.

How QSil 940 is processed

Stage the container, catalyst, mixing tools, and fixtures before opening the material. Mix until the compound is uniform, then dispense slowly into the housing or mold so air can escape around corners and component leads. Variable cure speed gives process flexibility, but it also means the team should document mix ratio, temperature, humidity, fill depth, and demold timing during qualification. If the finished part must release, test the tool surface before a production run. If it must bond, test primer coverage and adhesion after cure.
