Description
Sika Aktivator-100 is a transparent, solvent-based adhesion promoter for preparing bond faces before Sika elastic adhesives and sealants are applied. It reacts with moisture and deposits active groups on the surface, creating a better interface between the substrate and the primer, adhesive, or sealant that follows. This 250 mL size fits marine, vehicle, glass, and repair work where the surface-prep step has to be controlled and repeatable.
Where adhesion promoter is used
Use Sika Aktivator-100 on non-porous substrates called out by the Sika process, including float glass, ceramic screen prints, paint, the cut face of old polyurethane adhesive, and similar bond surfaces. It is common in glazing, marine deck hardware, window bonding, and elastic adhesive assemblies where the final bead is only as good as the prepared surface below it. The activator is wiped on as a thin treatment, then allowed to flash off before the next primer or sealant step.
How adhesion promoter fits the bonding process
Work with clean cloth or paper towel, wet the bond face lightly, and wipe off excess rather than flooding the surface. Sika literature gives flash-off windows based on temperature, with longer time needed when conditions are cooler. Keep the container closed between uses, avoid contaminating the applicator, and follow the adhesive system instructions for any primer that comes after activation. Do not use this as a stand-alone adhesive. It is a surface treatment that supports the bond line created by the adhesive or sealant.
