Description
Sikasil 728 SL Sealant is a one-component, self-leveling neutral cure silicone for horizontal pavement and deck joints. Its ultra-low-modulus elastomeric construction remains flexible as concrete joint widths change through temperature cycles and traffic exposure. The ready-to-use format supports sealing on highways, airports, bridges, parking structure top decks, expansion joints, and saw-cut joints.
Where Sikasil 728 SL Sealant Fits
This sealant is intended for horizontal joints where a flowable material can level into the prepared opening. Its published movement capability of plus 100 percent and minus 50 percent supports demanding joint movement, while UV resistance helps on exposed pavement and deck applications. Adhesion to concrete makes it useful for new work, maintenance, and repairs when the joint geometry and substrate condition match current instructions.
Self-leveling behavior reduces tooling on suitable horizontal joints, but it also requires a continuous joint base and properly installed backing material. Open gaps, missing backer rod, excessive slope, or unsealed terminations can allow uncured material to drain. Confirm joint width, depth, slope, and movement before placement.
Joint Preparation and Placement
Remove old sealant, laitance, loose concrete, dust, oil, moisture, and other bond breakers from the joint faces. Install a compatible backer rod to control depth and prevent three-sided adhesion. Mask adjacent surfaces when a clean edge matters. Apply continuously, allowing the silicone to contact both joint walls without trapping air.
Weather and surface temperature affect flow, skin formation, and cure. Plan the work so rain, standing water, traffic, and debris cannot disturb the joint before strength develops. For rehabilitation projects, make a field trial when the concrete carries an unknown sealer or previous treatment.
