Overview
SynthoGlass Petrolatum Tape Primer (PTP5.5) is a single-component, soft-paste corrosion inhibitor primer for pipeline and structural steel surface prep. It is the base coat under petrolatum corrosion-prevention tape systems, displacing moisture on the substrate and giving the outer wrap a clean, treated surface to bond to.
What It Does
- Inhibits corrosion on buried, submerged, and atmospheric-exposed pipe and steel
- Wets and displaces residual moisture on prepared substrates
- Penetrates surface irregularities and pitting for full-contact coverage
- Creates a non-curing, permanently soft barrier coat under petrolatum tape

- Pipeline corrosion proofing (oil and gas, water, wastewater)
- Buried valves, flanges, fittings, and bolted connections

Surface Prep
Remove loose rust, scale, and old coating. Wire brush or scrape to clean tight metal. PTP5.5 tolerates damp surfaces but bond improves on a dry substrate. Apply by brush, gloved hand, or applicator into all pits, threads, and welds before wrapping.
