Using the 5 Gallon Size
- Dip sealing takes volume. Each piece of coping goes fully into the sealer before it’s laid, and that’s one of the conditions for the 15-year saltwater warranty. Allow 14 days of cure before the coping goes into service.
- A pail covers about 800 sq ft of soft sandstone or dry pressed pavers at the minimum rate, and about 1,200 sq ft of honed limestone, honed travertine, or wet cast pavers. Very porous stone takes more.
- Keep the pail tightly closed between uses and store it locked up in a cool, well-ventilated place. It’s an acetone-carrier product.
- For a small job or a test on a new stone, the 1 gallon can is the better fit.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a 5 gallon pail of 40SK cover?
About 800 to 1,200 sq ft at Stain-Proof’s minimum rates for most listed surfaces, depending on the stone. The full coverage table is on the main 40SK page.
How do I dip seal pool coping with 40SK?
Dip the entire piece of coping in 40SK before it’s laid, let it cure 14 days, and set it with a premium polymer-modified thinset or adhesive made for repellent surfaces. The treated underside won’t bond to a standard water-based adhesive.
Is this the same as a 5 gallon pail of Dry-Treat 40SK?
Yes. It’s the same product and part number, 123142, now sold under the STAIN-PROOF name.
