The humble beginnings of Sika started in 1910 with an immigrant who moved to Switzerland named Kasper Winkler. Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, Kasper invented the first Sika product, which was a quick setting waterproofing admixture for mortar used in the Gotthard tunnel connecting Northern and Southern Europe. This launched his company Kasper Winkler & Co.
In 1921, having small scale manufacturing, he formed his company in Southern Germany and hired Fritz Schenker who became Director of Foreign Operations, opening subsidiaries in England, Italy and France. By 1935, Sika started to expand its worldwide manufacturing.
In 1937 Sika Corporation, headquartered in Lyndhurst, NJ , is a leading supplier of specialty chemical products and industrial materials serving, construction, transportation, marine and automotive markets and its technologies focused on sealing, bonding, damping, reinforcing and protecting fulfilling the highest quality standards.
