Description
ASI 55 is a one-part, moisture-cure hybrid sealant and adhesive based on silyl-terminated polyether technology. It is used for bonding and sealing in industrial construction, trailer and RV manufacturing, HVAC, appliance manufacturing, solar panel installation, and general industrial applications where long-term flexibility and UV resistance are required. The 100% solids formulation contains no solvents or isocyanates, will not shrink, and remains paintable within 24 hours of application. It can be applied to wet substrates and will cure even when moisture or rain is present.

When Standard Silicone or Urethane Isn’t the Right Fit
Silicone sealants are common in construction and manufacturing, but they have well-known limitations. Standard silicone cannot be painted, which rules it out for any application where the finished surface needs to match surrounding materials. Silicone also has limited adhesive strength, making it unsuitable where a structural or load-bearing bond is needed alongside the seal.
One-part urethane sealants and adhesives solve some of those problems but introduce others. Most standard construction urethanes contain isocyanates, which are a health and safety concern in enclosed or occupied spaces. They can also bubble or outgas when moisture is present before cure, which makes them difficult to use in field conditions or on substrates that are damp. Many urethane-based products also shrink as they cure because they are not 100% solids, which can compromise joint integrity over time.
ASI 55 is a hybrid sealant and adhesive that addresses both sets of limitations in a single one-part product. It bonds and seals like a urethane without isocyanates or shrinkage. It is paintable, unlike silicone. It cures in the presence of moisture and will not bubble or outgas on wet substrates. And it will not wash off with rain after application, which is a practical advantage in outdoor construction and installation work.
For buyers asking whether there is a one-component sealant that is stronger and more versatile than silicone but avoids the shrinkage, isocyanate, and moisture sensitivity problems of standard construction urethanes, ASI 55 is a direct answer to that question.
Performance in Production
- Non-slump consistency supports application on vertical and overhead surfaces without repositioning.
- Cures to wet substrates without bubbling or outgassing, and withstands immediate rain after application.
- 100% solids formulation does not shrink during cure, which matters in joint and gap applications where dimensional stability is required.
- UV-resistant formulation does not yellow, chalk, or degrade with long-term outdoor exposure.
- Contains no solvents or isocyanates, which reduces odor and supports safer use in occupied or enclosed spaces.
- Paintable within 24 hours using most consumer and industrial latex paints.
- MEKO-free. Compatible with electronics per manufacturer documentation.
- Allow 7 days for maximum strength before testing. Lower temperatures and humidity slow skin and cure times.
- Surfaces should be clean before application. IPA or acetone can be used for prep; do not use petroleum-based solvents. Priming is not normally required.
- Do not use on polyethylene, polypropylene, or TPO without prior testing.
