Huntsman Araldite 2054 Structural Methacrylate Adhesive

Description

Araldite 2054 is a two-part, toughened structural methacrylate adhesive built for bonding jobs where the joint has to move with the part, not just hold it still. Unlike a rigid epoxy, this structural methacrylate adhesive is formulated for high elongation at break above 30 percent, so it absorbs shock and vibration instead of cracking at the bond line.

Why fabricators choose this structural methacrylate adhesive

Available in 5 or 40 minute open time versions, it gives fabricators a choice between fast-turnaround production bonding and a longer working window for larger or more complex assemblies. Once cured, it resists temperatures up to 212 degrees Fahrenheit in service and can withstand an e-coat post-cure oven up to 392 degrees Fahrenheit, which matters for automotive and transportation assemblies that go through a paint or coating line after bonding.

Minimal substrate pre-treatment is required before application, which cuts prep time compared with adhesives that demand extensive surface abrasion or chemical priming. Huntsman describes excellent ageing and weathering resistance for the cured adhesive. Outdoor or variable-climate assemblies should still be qualified under the actual substrates, joint design, temperature range, and exposure conditions.

Transportation and specialty vehicle builders use it to bond metals, composites, and plastics in body and structural assemblies where a rigid adhesive would fail under road vibration. Sign and display fabricators rely on the elongation properties to bond mixed substrates that expand and contract at different rates.
