Description
Araldite AW 8680 is the resin side of a two-part polyurethane adhesive system for flexible bonding of plastics and primed metals. Huntsman documentation for the AW 8680 family describes a system used on polycarbonate, ABS, nylon, and Metton with minimal substrate preparation, and Chemical Concepts lists this SKU as the 12.84 lb AW 8680 container for use with the matching hardener.
Araldite AW 8680 Applications
- Flexible bonding on polycarbonate, nylon, ABS, and other engineered plastics.
- Assembly work where a polyurethane bond line is preferred over a rigid epoxy.
- Primed metal bonding after surface preparation and process qualification.
- Mixed-material assemblies that may see movement, vibration, or impact.
- Production use where a larger resin package feeds metering or batch mixing.
This resin is not a complete adhesive by itself. Pair it with the specified Araldite hardener, hold the correct ratio, and verify the current Huntsman technical data before releasing production work. Do not substitute another curative without engineering approval. Keep resin and hardener lots traceable when the bond is part of a regulated or customer-specified build.
Araldite AW 8680 Setup Notes
Clean surfaces before bonding and remove oil, dust, release agent, and weak coatings. Dry-fit the parts, confirm working time, and plan fixtures before mixing. Polyurethane adhesive systems can be forgiving on plastics, but bond strength still depends on surface condition, ratio control, and full cure.
For production work, document the mixer, cartridge or meter-mix setup, cure schedule, and inspection method. When bonding plastics, test the actual substrate grade and surface condition rather than relying on a family name alone. If parts have been cleaned with a solvent or stored with release films, repeat the trial after the normal shop process.
