Description

LORD 201/19 is a two-part structural acrylic adhesive consisting of LORD 201 adhesive mixed with LORD Accelerator 19 at a 2:1 volumetric ratio. It bonds metals, ceramics, and plastics with little or no surface preparation and is UL 746C certified, which distinguishes it from the LORD 201/17 configuration. The self-leveling consistency allows it to flow into irregular shapes and confined joint areas. It is used as a direct replacement for welding, brazing, riveting, and mechanical fastening in industrial assembly applications.

Performance in Production

  • Self-leveling consistency flows into irregular shapes and hard-to-reach joint areas without requiring specialized dispensing equipment.
  • 5 to 8 minute working time supports part positioning and assembly adjustments before fixturing.
  • Handling strength is reached within 12 to 16 minutes at 75°F (24°C); full cure takes 24 hours at room temperature.
  • Parts should be fixtured within 5 minutes of adhesive application.
  • Metal surfaces should be wiped with MEK to remove grease and loose contamination. Normal mill oils and drawing compounds typically do not present an adhesion problem.
  • Most plastics require an isopropyl alcohol wipe only. Abrading may improve performance on some substrates.
  • Resists dilute acids, alkalis, solvents, greases, oils, and moisture. Provides resistance to indirect UV exposure, salt spray, and weathering.
  • Insensitive to minor deviations from the correct mix ratio.
  • Handheld cartridges automatically dispense the correct 2:1 ratio. Even color distribution after mixing indicates a thorough mix.
  • Bulk quantities (1/10-gallon, pail, drum) are available for higher-volume production where adhesive and accelerator are handled separately. Contact Chemical Concepts for details.

LORD 201/17 vs. LORD 201/19: Accelerator Selection

LORD 201 adhesive is available with two accelerator configurations. Both use the same adhesive base.

LORD 201/17 LORD 201/19
Mix Ratio 10:1 10:5 (2:1)
UL 746C Certified No Yes
Cured Color Tan to green Tan to green / Black (A19 Black)
Cartridge Sizes at Chemical Concepts 404mL CX 50mL, 210mL

Use 201/19 when UL 746C certification is required or when a black-cured bond line is needed using Accelerator 19 Black.

Common Applications

  • Metal bonding in industrial assembly, replacing welding, brazing, and riveting
  • Bonding unprepared metals where minimal surface preparation is a production advantage
  • Bonding ceramics and plastics in mixed-material assemblies
  • Irregular shape and gap-filling applications where self-leveling behavior is needed
  • Assemblies exposed to dilute acids, alkalis, solvents, oils, moisture, salt spray, or weathering
  • Applications requiring a UL 746C certified adhesive system

Frequently Asked Questions

What is LORD 201/19?
LORD 201/19 is a two-part structural acrylic adhesive consisting of LORD 201 adhesive and LORD Accelerator 19, mixed at a 2:1 volumetric ratio. It bonds metals, ceramics, and plastics with little or no surface preparation and is UL 746C certified.

What is the difference between LORD 201/17 and LORD 201/19?
Both use the LORD 201 adhesive base. Accelerator 17 uses a 10:1 mix ratio and is not UL listed. Accelerator 19 uses a 10:5 (2:1) mix ratio and produces a UL 746C certified adhesive system. Accelerator 19 is also available in black for applications where a black cured bond line is preferred. Chemical Concepts carries both configurations.

Is LORD 201/19 UL listed?
Yes. LORD 201 mixed with LORD Accelerator 19 is UL 746C certified. The 201/17 configuration (using Accelerator 17) does not carry this certification.

What mix ratio does LORD 201/19 use?
LORD 201/19 uses a 10:5 volumetric ratio of adhesive to accelerator, equivalent to 2:1. Handheld cartridges automatically dispense and mix the correct ratio.

Does LORD 201 require surface preparation?
Metal surfaces should be wiped with MEK to remove grease and loose contamination. Normal mill oils and drawing compounds typically do not present a problem. Most plastics require only an isopropyl alcohol wipe. Abrading may improve performance on some plastic substrates.

How long does LORD 201/19 take to cure?
Handling strength is reached within 12 to 16 minutes at 75°F (24°C). Full cure takes 24 hours at room temperature. Parts should be fixtured within 5 minutes of adhesive application.

What cartridge sizes are available?
LORD 201/19 is available in 50mL (SKU 3020987) and 210mL (SKU 3031481) cartridges. Bulk quantities are also available. Contact Chemical Concepts at 800-220-1966 or [email protected] for bulk pricing and availability.
