Description
SilverTape 5336 acrylic foam tape is a 25 mil gray double-sided tape for joining mixed materials in signs, panels, trim, transportation components, appliances, and general fabrication. Its conformable acrylic core helps maintain contact across minor surface variation and accommodates different rates of thermal expansion between bonded parts. High initial tack supports efficient placement on clean, prepared surfaces, while the acrylic construction provides a durable alternative to visible screws and rivets in suitable assemblies.
Materials and Assembly Uses
The tape is suited to steel, aluminum, glass, ceramics, PVC, ABS, and other medium to high surface energy materials. It can be used for mounting emblems, attaching stiffeners, securing decorative trim, joining sign components, and assembling interior panels. Low surface energy plastics require application testing and may need a compatible primer. The gray core helps the bond line blend with metal components and dark gaps. Its foam construction also helps reduce contact between dissimilar materials.
Surface Preparation and Application
Clean both surfaces so they are dry and free of oil, dust, release agents, and loose coatings. Apply the tape without touching the adhesive, use firm pressure across the full width, and avoid trapping air. Bond strength builds after application, so assemblies should remain undisturbed while the adhesive wets out. Use temperature, dwell time, load direction, joint design, and environmental exposure as part of the qualification process.
