Description

ASI 5900 Fast-Grab Hybrid Adhesive – 20 oz Sausage Pack

ASI 5900 in the 20 oz sausage pack is the high-volume format of one of the most widely used fast-grab hybrid adhesives in construction and fabrication. Designed for shops and installers where reloading cartridges creates downtime on the line. Same adhesive, same performance, more material per unit, less changeover per shift.

Requires a sausage gun for dispensing. If you are new to ASI 5900, start with the 10.2 oz cartridge to qualify the product in your application, then move to the sausage format at volume.

What Makes ASI 5900 Different From Standard Construction Adhesive

ASI 5900 is a one-part silyl-terminated polyether hybrid adhesive. That chemistry is what separates it from the two most common alternatives in construction and fabrication: acetoxy silicone and one-part polyurethane.

Acetoxy silicone releases acetic acid during cure. In enclosed spaces like bathrooms, shower surrounds, and RV interiors, that means a vinegar odor that lingers during installation and can cause corrosion on metal framing, fixtures, and fasteners in the assembly. Acetoxy silicone also has limited initial grab, which means panels and substrates need to be held or braced while it cures.

One-part polyurethane adhesives contain isocyanates, which are a health and safety concern in occupied or poorly ventilated spaces. They can also bubble and outgas when moisture is present before cure, limiting their usefulness in field conditions or on substrates that have not been fully dried.

ASI 5900 contains no acetoxy chemistry, no isocyanates, and no solvents. It cures in the presence of moisture without bubbling. It grabs immediately on contact. And it does not shrink, because it is 100% solids and what you apply stays.

Performance in Production

  • Immediate green strength fixtures substrates in place within minutes, reducing or eliminating bracing, clamping, and fastener requirements during assembly.
  • Lap shear of 2.15 MPa delivers a strong bond profile suited for panel bonding and load-bearing applications.
  • 100% solids formulation does not shrink during cure.
  • Bonds to wet substrates without bubbling or outgassing, and withstands immediate rain after application.
  • Contains no solvents, isocyanates, or acetoxy chemistry. No acetic acid off-gassing. Low odor and MEKO-free.
  • Remains easy to dispense from 0 degrees F to 150 degrees F.
  • Non-slump formulation holds position on vertical and overhead surfaces.
  • Allow 7 days for maximum strength before testing. Lower temperatures and humidity slow skin and cure times.
  • Surfaces should be clean before application. IPA or acetone recommended for surface prep; do not use petroleum-based solvents.
  • Do not use on polyethylene, polypropylene, or TPO without prior testing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the ASI 5900 10.2 oz cartridge and the 20 oz sausage pack?
The adhesive is identical. The sausage pack reduces changeover frequency in high-volume applications and is generally more cost-efficient at volume. It requires a sausage gun rather than a standard caulk gun. The 10.2 oz cartridge is the right starting point for new users; the 20 oz sausage is the standard format for production environments.

What kind of gun does the ASI 5900 sausage pack require?
The 20 oz sausage pack requires a sausage gun, also called a bulk adhesive gun or skeleton gun with sausage adapter. It is not compatible with a standard caulk gun. Contact Chemical Concepts at 800-220-1966 or [email protected] for help sourcing compatible dispensing equipment.

Can ASI 5900 be used for large shower panel installation?
Yes. ASI 5900 is widely used for full-size Corian shower walls, stone shower panels, and fiberglass panel installation. The immediate green strength holds panels in position without bracing while the adhesive cures. It contains no acetoxy chemistry and produces no acetic acid off-gassing, which matters in enclosed bathroom and shower installations.

Is ASI 5900 safe to use in enclosed spaces?
Yes. ASI 5900 contains no isocyanates, no solvents, and no acetoxy chemistry. It is low odor and MEKO-free, making it suitable for use in occupied or enclosed spaces including bathrooms, shower surrounds, and RV interiors.

Does ASI 5900 work on wet surfaces?
Yes. ASI 5900 bonds to wet substrates without bubbling or outgassing and will not wash off with rain after application. It cures in the presence of moisture, which makes it practical in field conditions and on substrates that cannot be fully dried before application.
