Description
Araldite HY 991 is the room-temperature hardener for Huntsman Araldite AY 103 epoxy resin. Mixed with AY 103, it forms a transparent, low-viscosity adhesive that bonds metal, ceramic, glass, and wood across a wide cure range.
Where Araldite HY 991 is used
General industrial assembly and repair shops pair this hardener with AY 103 when they need a clear epoxy that flows into tight joints. The low viscosity makes it easy to apply by spatula and brush or to meter through mixing and coating equipment. The amber color of the hardener makes it easy to tell apart from other chemicals on the bench.
How Araldite HY 991 cures
The AY 103 and HY 991 system cures anywhere from 68 F (20 C) up to 212 F (100 C), so the same adhesive works for slow room-temperature bonds or faster heat-accelerated cures. Stored sealed between 36 F and 104 F, the hardener holds a three-year shelf life. The cured bond stays transparent, which suits visible joints in glass and ceramic work. Working time at room temperature lets a crew position parts and clamp before the bond builds strength, while a short oven cycle speeds turnaround on production runs. The clear bond line also makes it easy to inspect a finished joint for voids or gaps before the part ships.
