Choosing the 20 Gram Over the 1 lb
- This is the size to buy first. RX chemistry gets specified to solve a specific bonding failure, so prove it on the actual part before you commit to bulk.
- Sold in case quantity of 10, which suits stocking several stations or a service fleet rather than a single-bottle purchase.
- The 1 lb holds 453 g, about 23 times as much, sells individually, and is what most production lines end up on. RX-500 and RX-100 are the only two RX grades offered that way.
- Cyanoacrylate cure is driven by moisture, and humidity in the headspace of a partly used bottle works against you over time. Buy the size your shop finishes.
- If a 20 gram lasts a station a month or more, stay here. If you’re going through a bottle a week, the 1 lb is the move.
Performance in Production
- Dispenses straight from the bottle. No gun, no mixer, and small enough to take to the part.
- Bonds through silicone greases, oils, and release agents, and onto plated parts, which is why you’d choose this over a general purpose grade.
- .008 in gap capability, nearly double RX-100, so it covers parts that fit loosely rather than requiring good fit-up.
- Substrate failure on ABS, rigid PVC, nylon, polycarbonate, SBR, and EPDM. On all six the part fails before the bond does.
- 2300 psi on steel, the same as every liquid RX grade, so the wider gap costs nothing in strength.
- One free-falling drop covers about one square inch of bond area, so 20 grams covers a real part count.
- Fixture in 1 to 5 minutes, 80% of strength in 15 to 30 minutes, though a filled .008 in gap cures from the outside in so allow the longer end.
- At 350 to 550 cP it moves more slowly than a thin grade but it is not a gel and it will still run on a vertical face. Hold the part flat or clamp it.
- Clean the parts anyway. This buys margin on a difficult surface, it does not remove the value of prep.
- Keep the tip clean and the cap on. A CA bottle that clogs is almost always a bottle that sat open.

How much is in a 20 gram bottle of Pacer RX-500?
Net weight is 0.70 oz (20 g). Pacer’s guidance is that one free-falling drop covers roughly one square inch of bond area. Pacer does not publish a drop count per bottle, and a thicker grade in a wider gap uses more material per joint than a thin grade would.
Why won’t regular super glue stick to my parts?
Usually the surface, not the adhesive. Oily and greasy films, silicone lubricants, mold release, plating, and acidic surface treatments all block or slow cyanoacrylate cure. The tell is inconsistency: a standard grade bonds some parts from a batch and not others. If instead it cures at the edges and stays wet in the middle, that’s a gap problem, and RX-500’s .008 in capability is nearly double a medium viscosity grade.
How much gap will Pacer RX-500 fill?
Typical gap capability is .008 in. If your parts sit looser, RX-700 fills .010 in and the RX Gel allows .020 in. Adding more adhesive does not bridge a wider gap, it just leaves an uncured core in the middle of the bond line.
Is the 20 gram the same adhesive as the 1 lb?
Yes, identical. Same non-surface-sensitive chemistry, same 350 to 550 cP viscosity, same .008 in gap capability, same MIL-A-46050C Type II, Class 3 rating. Only the container and the order quantity change, since this sells in a case of 10 and the 1 lb sells individually.
Will Pacer RX-500 run on a vertical surface?
Slower than a thin grade, but yes. At 350 to 550 cP it is still a liquid and Pacer publishes no sag figure for it. Hold the part flat or clamp it. If the part cannot be reoriented, the RX Gel is the only grade Pacer rates as non-sag and non-running.
How should Pacer RX-500 be stored, and what is the shelf life?
Refrigerate unopened bottles for optimal results. Once opened, store in a cool, dry location away from heat sources. Stored that way, expect a one year shelf life.
