Description
Pacer RX-700 cyanoacrylate adhesive is a virtually non-surface-sensitive instant adhesive that runs 600 to 800 cP and fills to .010 in. It is the thickest liquid grade in Pacer’s RX Series, and the thickest Range Extended grade Pacer certifies to MIL-A-46050C. The RX Gel fills more gap but Pacer does not certify it to that spec, which makes RX-700 the end of the line for anyone who needs maximum gap capability and the MIL callout together. The RX chemistry bonds porous and acidic substrates, plated parts, and surfaces carrying silicone grease, oil, or release agent, and it fails the substrate before the bond on ABS, rigid PVC, nylon, polycarbonate, SBR, and EPDM. RX-700 meets MIL-A-46050C Type II, Class 3 and A-A-3097 Type II, Class 3.

Full property data for every grade in the series is in the Pacer RX Series technical data sheet (PDF). The data sheet covers grades beyond what we currently stock. Chemical Concepts carries RX-50, RX-100, RX-500, RX-700, and the RX Gel.
Shear Strength by Substrate
Tested per ASTM D-1002. Where the table reads substrate failure, the part broke before the bond did.
| Substrate | Shear Strength, psi (+/- 10%) |
|---|---|
| Steel | 2300 |
| Aluminum | 1600 |
| Copper | 1400 |
| ABS | Substrate failure |
| Rigid PVC | Substrate failure |
| Nylon | Substrate failure |
| Polycarbonate | Substrate failure |
| SBR | Substrate failure |
| EPDM | Substrate failure |
Shear figures are identical across every liquid grade in the RX Series, so choosing RX-700 for the .010 in gap costs you nothing in strength. Worth noting against Pacer’s general purpose line: E-1500 also fills .010 in, but needs 1300 to 1700 cP to do it and drops to 2200 psi on steel. RX-700 reaches the same gap at 600 to 800 cP and holds 2300 psi.
Specifying a Cyanoacrylate to MIL-A-46050C or A-A-3097
If a drawing or a purchase order calls out MIL-A-46050C or A-A-3097, the callout normally includes a Type and a Class, and getting the Class wrong is the usual reason an otherwise fine adhesive gets rejected on receipt. Pacer states it will certify compliance for the grades below, so the practical question is which grade matches the Class on your paperwork.
- Every Pacer cyanoacrylate in these series is Type II. What varies between grades is the Class.
- Across Pacer’s own assignments, the Class tracks viscosity. Thin grades come out Class 1, medium grades Class 2, thick grades Class 3. So a Class callout is effectively a viscosity callout, which is why you cannot simply substitute a thicker grade into a Class 1 job.
- RX-700 is Type II, Class 3 under both specs, and it is the thickest Range Extended grade Pacer certifies at all.
- The RX Gel is the exception. It carries A-A-3097 Type II, Class 5 and Pacer does not certify it to MIL-A-46050C. If your job names the MIL spec, the gel is off the table regardless of how well it suits the joint.
- Ask for the certificate of conformance when you place the order, not after the parts arrive. Pacer certifies compliance, but a CoC has to be requested.
- If the callout gives a Class you cannot match in the RX Series, check the general purpose E Series, which covers Class 1 through Class 3 on clean surfaces, and call us before you substitute anything.
| Class | RX Series grade | E Series equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Type II, Class 1 | RX-50 | E-5, E-40 |
| Type II, Class 2 | RX-100 | E-100 |
| Type II, Class 3 | RX-500, RX-700 | E-1500 |
| A-A-3097 Class 5 only | RX Gel, not MIL certified | None |
Choosing a Viscosity in the RX Series
Every grade runs the same non-surface-sensitive ethyl hybrid cyanoacrylate chemistry, the same -65F to +180F cured range, and the same shear figures. Viscosity, gap, certification, and package are what change.
| Grade | Viscosity | Typical Gap | MIL-A-46050C | Sizes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RX-50 | 30 to 70 cP | .004 in | Class 1 | 20 gram |
| RX-100 | 80 to 120 cP | .005 in | Class 2 | 20 gram, 1 lb |
| RX-500 | 350 to 550 cP | .008 in | Class 3 | 20 gram, 1 lb |
| RX-700 | 600 to 800 cP | .010 in | Class 3 | 20 gram |
| RX Gel | Non-running gel | .020 in | Not certified | 20 gram, 200 gram tubes |
Two practical limits on this grade. It comes in a 20 gram bottle only, so if you need Range Extended chemistry at production volume the thickest bulk option is RX-500 in the 1 lb, filling .008 in rather than .010 in. And at 600 to 800 cP it is still a liquid, so a vertical or overhead joint needs the gel.
Performance in Production
- The thickest Range Extended grade Pacer certifies to MIL-A-46050C, at Type II, Class 3. If a job needs maximum gap and the MIL callout together, this is the grade.
- .010 in gap capability, the widest of the RX liquids and double RX-100, which covers parts that do not mate cleanly at all.
- Bonds through silicone greases, oils, and release agents, and onto plated parts. A documented property, not a technique claim.
- Substrate failure on ABS, rigid PVC, nylon, polycarbonate, SBR, and EPDM. On all six your joint strength is set by the part, not the adhesive.
- 2300 psi on steel, the same as every liquid RX grade, so the widest gap in the liquid range costs nothing in strength.
- Reaches .010 in at 600 to 800 cP where Pacer’s general purpose E-1500 needs 1300 to 1700 cP for the same gap. A lower viscosity at the same gap is easier to dispense and easier to wet a joint with.
- Fixture in 1 to 5 minutes and 80% of strength in 15 to 30 minutes. A filled .010 in gap cures from the outside in, so allow the longer end before loading.
- Plan an accelerator in if you work at the top of the gap range. Pacer recommends accelerators specifically to speed cure through larger gaps, at the cost of possible white frosting on exposed adhesive and some loss of cure strength.
- Still a liquid. It moves more slowly than a thin grade but Pacer publishes no sag figure, so a vertical or overhead joint wants the RX Gel instead.
- Offered in a 20 gram bottle only, sold in case quantity of 10.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Pacer RX-700 used for?
Pacer RX-700 is used for bonding poorly mating parts whose surfaces a standard cyanoacrylate will not cure on. At 600 to 800 cP it fills to .010 in, the widest gap of the RX liquid grades, and the Range Extended chemistry handles plated parts, porous and acidic substrates, and surfaces carrying oil, silicone grease, or release agent. It is also the thickest Range Extended grade Pacer certifies to MIL-A-46050C.
Does Pacer RX-700 meet MIL-A-46050C?
Yes, at Type II, Class 3, and it also meets A-A-3097 Type II, Class 3. In Pacer’s assignments the Class tracks viscosity, so RX-700 shares Class 3 with RX-500 while RX-100 is Class 2 and RX-50 is Class 1. The RX Gel is the only grade in the series Pacer does not certify to MIL-A-46050C, which makes RX-700 the thickest certified option. Ask for the certificate of conformance when you place the order.
What is the thickest Pacer Range Extended grade?
The RX Gel, which is a non-running gel filling .020 in. RX-700 at 600 to 800 cP is the thickest liquid grade, filling .010 in. The distinction matters for two reasons: the gel is the only grade rated for vertical and overhead work, and it is the only grade not certified to MIL-A-46050C. If you need maximum gap and the MIL spec together, RX-700 is the answer.
How much gap will Pacer RX-700 fill?
Typical gap capability is .010 in, double RX-100 at .005 in and the widest of the RX liquids. The RX Gel allows .020 in if you need more. Past that, cyanoacrylate is the wrong chemistry, since cure depends on surface moisture reaching the middle of the bond line and a wider gap leaves an uncured core. Ask us about a two part structural adhesive instead.
Is Pacer RX-700 weaker than a thinner RX grade?
No. Every liquid grade in the RX Series publishes the same figures: 2300 psi shear on steel, 1600 on aluminum, 1400 on copper, and 4000 psi tensile on steel. Choosing RX-700 for the wider gap costs nothing in strength. That differs from Pacer’s general purpose E Series, where steel shear drops from 2700 psi in the thin grades to 2200 in the thickest.
Does Pacer RX-700 come in a larger size?
No. The 20 gram bottle is the only package Pacer offers in this grade, sold in case quantity of 10. RX-100 and RX-500 are the two Range Extended grades available in a 1 lb bottle, with RX-500 the closer match at .008 in gap. If you’re standardizing a production process on RX-700 and need volume, call us before you build the process around it.
Does Pacer RX-700 bond EPDM rubber?
Yes. In ASTM D-1002 testing RX-700 gives substrate failure on EPDM, meaning the rubber tears before the bond does, and SBR is the same. Pacer’s general purpose E Series grades reach only 100 psi on EPDM. With .010 in of gap capability it also suits rubber parts that do not sit flat against the mating surface.
Will Pacer RX-700 stay put on a vertical surface?
Better than the thinner grades, but it is not rated for it. At 600 to 800 cP RX-700 moves slowly, and Pacer publishes no sag or slump figure for it. Hold the part flat or clamp it. If the part cannot be reoriented, the RX Gel is the only grade Pacer rates as non-sag and non-running, with the caveat that it is not MIL-A-46050C certified.
How should Pacer RX-700 be stored, and what is the shelf life?
Refrigerate unopened bottles for optimal results. Once opened, store in a cool, dry location away from heat sources. Stored that way, expect a one year shelf life.
