Description

Production-Grade Surface Pretreatment

Pyrosil® GVE2 HB Portable Unit

Advanced flame pyrolysis for continuous manufacturing environments.

The Pyrosil® GVE2 HB is a portable surface treatment unit engineered for medium to large-sized parts. It utilizes flame pyrolysis to deposit a several-nanometer-thin, highly reactive silicon dioxide (SiOx) layer directly onto treated surfaces.

Designed for continuous operation, the GVE2 HB can be used as a heavy-duty hand unit for large workpieces or integrated directly into a process line. It dramatically increases surface tension, helping adhesives, coatings, and UV inks bond permanently to low-energy plastics, glass, and metals.

Pyrosil surface treatment system for adhesion promotion on plastics glass metal and ceramics

Standard Flame Treatment

Standard propane flame treatment only provides a temporary fix for difficult surfaces.

  • Temporarily increases surface energy through oxidation.
  • Does not permanently alter the chemical structure of the substrate.
  • May not prevent long-term delamination under mechanical or chemical wear.

The Pyrosil® Advantage

Pyrosil chemically transforms the surface for permanent, structural bond reliability.

  • Deposits a dense, highly reactive SiOx layer onto the surface.
  • Dramatically improves torque, shear, and peel adhesion strength.
  • Provides superior resistance against moisture, abrasion, and environmental wear.

Common Applications

  • Surface silication of medium and large-sized parts.
  • Improving adhesive bond strength in structural manufacturing assemblies.
  • Bonding preparation for low-energy plastics (HDPE, PP, PE, Nylon).
  • Treating smooth, non-porous surfaces (Glass, Ceramics, Porcelain, Metal).
  • Increasing silicone adhesion in architectural applications.

GVE2 HB System Components

  • Robust base unit with built-in pressure indicator.
  • Two-step pressure minimizer evaporator unit.
  • High-capacity 55mm hand burner with operating lever and temperature sensor.
  • Flexible pressure hose connecting base device to hand burner.
  • Dual cartridges for extended, continuous operation substrate usage.

Treatment Guidance & Times

Use the non-luminous oxidizing part of the flame for pretreatment. Move the flame gently across the substrate to avoid localized overheating.

  • Typical Speed: Approx. 15 to 30 seconds per 0.5 m² of surface area.
  • Plastics: 1 to 3 flame cycles are typically sufficient.
  • Metal/Glass/Ceramics: 4 to 8 flame cycles are typically sufficient. Warming these materials to 40°C–50°C helps avoid condensation.
  • Processing: Speedy processing after treatment is recommended (12-hour maximum window).

Important Safety & Scaling Info

  • Pyrosil uses a propane-butane gas mixture and must be handled with appropriate flame safety practices.
  • Remove ignition sources and strictly prohibit smoking during handling.
  • Use good ventilation or an exhaust device for longer work periods, and exercise caution when treating PTFE/fluorine polymers.

Scaling up? Pyrosil is also available in highly integrated Semi-Automatic and Fully-Automatic inline systems.
