Why This Is the Grade Production Lines Land On
- It is the only Range Extended grade that pairs a wide gap with a 1 lb bottle. RX-700 at .010 in and the RX Gel at .020 in are both small-package only, and RX-100 in the 1 lb fills only .005 in.
- 453 g against 20 g, about 23 times the material, and it sells individually rather than in a case of 10, so it’s the easier single purchase.
- .008 in gap capability absorbs fit-up variation across a production run, which matters more at volume than on a bench where an operator can pick and choose parts.
- Prove the chemistry first if you’re new to it. Run the 20 gram on the actual substrate in the actual conditions before you buy a pound.

- Plan an accelerator into the station if you work near the top of the gap range. Pacer recommends accelerators specifically for larger gaps, at the cost of possible white frosting and some loss of cure strength.
- At 350 to 550 cP it holds position better than a thin grade but it is not a gel. Build the station around a horizontal or fixtured joint.
- Decant only what gets used in a shift and keep transfer containers dry and capped. Cure rate tracks relative humidity, so open material in a humid shop behaves differently than a fresh bottle.
- Clean the parts anyway. Pacer’s guidance still calls for surfaces free from oil and grease, so this buys process margin rather than removing cleaning.

Does Pacer RX-500 bond EPDM rubber?
Yes. In ASTM D-1002 testing RX-500 gives substrate failure on EPDM, meaning the rubber tears before the bond does, and SBR is the same. Pacer’s general purpose E Series grades reach only 100 psi on EPDM. Since this is the thickest RX grade available in bulk, it’s usually the right starting point for rubber work at production volume.
How should Pacer RX-500 be stored, and what is the shelf life?
