Choosing the 20 Gram Over the 1 lb

E-100 comes in two sizes and the decision is about consumption rate and lead time, not cost per gram.

• The 20 gram is a working bottle. It goes to the bench, the tech uses it, it goes back in the drawer.
• The 20 gram is stocked. The 1 lb is a special order with a 10 to 15 day lead time, so if you need material this week, this is the size.
• The 1 lb holds 453 g, about 23 times as much, and it functions as a bulk container that gets drawn from rather than carried around.
• Cyanoacrylate cure is driven by moisture, and humidity in the headspace of a partly used bottle works against you over time. Pacer’s one year shelf life is stated for unopened material, so the size that finishes before it degrades is the size that costs you least.
• If you go through a 20 gram in under a week, you’re buying the wrong size and the 1 lb is the move. Plan the lead time, or call us about a standing order.
• If a 20 gram lasts you a month or more, stay here. Smaller bottles also let you stock two or three viscosities without committing to bulk on any of them.
• Need something smaller? E-5 is the only grade in the current E Series offered in a 5 gram bottle, though it’s a water-thin wicking grade rather than a medium viscosity one.

Performance in Production

• Dispenses straight from the bottle. No gun, no static mixer, no mixing station, so a bond can happen anywhere a tech can stand.
• One free-falling drop covers about one square inch of bond area, so 20 grams goes further than the size suggests on small parts and detail work.
• .005 in gap capability is the most forgiving of the thin and medium grades, which makes this the sensible bottle to keep on a bench that sees a mix of parts.
• At 80 to 120 cP this flows. It will run on a vertical or overhead face before it sets, so hold the part flat or clamp it. If your repairs are usually overhead or on a wall, E-1500 is the grade you want.
• Fixture in 1 to 5 minutes and 80% of strength in 15 to 30 minutes means a repair goes back into service the same shift.
• Impact strength is 3 to 5 ft-lbs, the low end of the series. If the repaired part gets handled hard afterward, E-40 more than doubles that at 7 to 10.
• Small bottle means less material at risk when a job gets cancelled, a substrate changes, or the joint design turns out to need a different viscosity.
• Keep the tip clean and the cap on. A CA bottle that clogs is almost always a bottle that sat open, not a bad bottle.

Will Pacer E-100 run on a vertical surface?

Yes. At 80 to 120 cP E-100 is a flowing liquid and it will move on a vertical or overhead face before it cures. Medium viscosity in a cyanoacrylate means medium relative to water-thin, not non-sag. Hold the part flat, clamp it, mist with a Pacer accelerator to set the surface, or change grades: E-1500 at 1300 to 1700 cP holds position much better, and RX-50M Gel will not move at all.

Does Pacer E-100 need to be refrigerated?

Pacer recommends refrigerating unopened bottles at 40F (4C) for optimum results, then letting the adhesive come up to room temperature before opening. Opening a cold bottle draws condensation into the material. Once opened, store in a cool, dry location. It is not a requirement, it is what gets you the full stated shelf life.

How long does Pacer E-100 last once opened?

Pacer’s one year shelf life is stated for unopened material stored per the data sheet, and Pacer does not publish a separate figure for opened bottles.
