Choosing the 1 lb
Same adhesive in all three sizes, so the decision comes down to how fast the bottle empties.
- 453 g against 20 g, or 16 oz against 0.70 oz, about 23 times the material. If a 20 gram lasts your shop a week or less, this is the size and the reorder cycle alone justifies it.
- This is a bulk container, not a bench bottle. Most shops draw from it to fill smaller applicator bottles or to charge a dispensing system, rather than handing the 1 lb to an operator.
- Refrigeration matters more at this size. A cold 1 lb bottle takes real time to reach room temperature, and opening it before it does pulls condensation into a lot of material at once. Plan the warm-up.
- Pacer’s one year shelf life is stated for unopened material stored per the data sheet. Buying more than a year of consumption does not save money.
- If you’re still qualifying E-5 on your substrates, start with the 20 gram and step up once the joint design and fit-up are settled. A wicking grade lives or dies on fit-up, so prove that before you buy a pound.
- Worth knowing if you’re standardizing across viscosities: E-5, E-40, and E-100 all come in a 1 lb. E-1500, the thick grade, is 20 gram only.

Should a 1 lb bottle of Pacer E-5 be refrigerated?
Pacer recommends refrigerating unopened cyanoacrylate at 40F (4C) for optimum results, then bringing it to room temperature before opening. Once opened, store in a cool, dry location. Stored per the data sheet, expect a one year shelf life.
Will Pacer E-5 hold on a vertical joint?
No. At 2 to 10 cP E-5 is essentially the viscosity of water and it will run off a vertical or overhead face and wick into areas you did not target. Design the station around a flat or fixtured joint. If part orientation cannot change, use E-1500 at 1300 to 1700 cP, or RX-50M Gel for a true gel.
