Description

This 20 gram (0.70 oz) bottle of Pacer E-5 is the bench standard size of Pacer’s water-thin ethyl cyanoacrylate, 2 to 10 cP with .002 in gap capability. E-5 goes on after the parts are assembled: position the joint, touch a drop to the seam, and capillary action pulls it in. The 20 gram is the size for a rework cell, a service bench, or a production station that goes through a bottle over weeks rather than days, and it buys without a case requirement.

Choosing the 20 Gram

E-5 comes in three sizes and the decision is about consumption rate, not cost per gram.

  • The 20 gram is a working bottle. It goes to the bench, the tech uses it, it goes back in the drawer, and it buys as a single bottle with no case requirement.
  • The 5 gram is sold in case quantity, so it fits a shop stocking multiple stations rather than a one-bottle purchase.
  • The 1 lb holds 453 g, about 23 times this bottle, and it works as a bulk container you draw from rather than carry around.
  • Cyanoacrylate cure is driven by moisture, and humidity in the headspace of a partly used bottle works against you over time. Pacer’s one year shelf life is stated for unopened material, so the size that finishes before it degrades is the size that costs you least.
  • If you go through a 20 gram in under a week, look at the 1 lb. If it lasts a month or more, stay here. Smaller bottles also let you stock two or three viscosities without committing to bulk on any of them.

Performance in Production

  • Dispenses straight from the bottle. No gun, no mixer, no mixing station, so a bond can happen anywhere a tech can stand.
  • Applied after assembly. Position and clamp the part, touch a drop to the seam, and capillary action pulls it into the joint. On press-fit and slip-fit work that removes a step.
  • One free-falling drop covers about one square inch of bond area, and a wicking grade gets used a drop at a time, so 20 grams goes further than the size suggests.
  • 2700 psi tensile shear on steel is the highest in the E Series, provided your fit-up is close enough for a wicking grade to work.
  • At 2 to 10 cP this runs and it migrates. Fixture flat, keep it clear of threads, bearings, and cosmetic faces, and mask where the part demands it.
  • Keep the tip clean and the cap on. A thin CA bottle that clogs is almost always a bottle that sat open, not a bad bottle.

Common Applications

  • Wicking into close-fitting joints after assembly
  • Press-fit and slip-fit part retention
  • Rework and repair of molded plastic parts
  • Hairline crack repair in plastic and ceramic
  • Rubber to metal bonding on tight-fitting small parts
  • Bench work calling out MIL-A-46050C Type II, Class 1 or A-A-3097 Type II, Class 1

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is in a 20 gram bottle of Pacer E-5?

Net weight is 0.70 oz (20 g). Pacer’s guidance is that one free-falling drop covers roughly one square inch of bond area, and a wicking grade gets used a drop at a time, so a 20 gram bottle covers a lot of joints. Pacer does not publish a drop count or a coverage figure per gram, so if you need to budget material for a run, tell us the part and we’ll help you estimate off a sample.

What are the size options for Pacer E-5?

Three: a 5 gram bottle sold in case quantity, this 20 gram bottle, and a 1 lb (453 g) bulk bottle. Same adhesive in all three, same specs, same spec compliance. E-5 is the only grade in the current E Series available in a 5 gram.

Will Pacer E-5 run on a vertical surface?

Yes, more than any other grade in the series. At 2 to 10 cP this is essentially the viscosity of water and it runs straight down a vertical face, and it wicks into places you did not aim it. Fixture the part flat, mask cosmetic surfaces, and keep it clear of threads and bearings. For vertical or overhead work use E-1500, or RX-50M Gel if it cannot move at all.

How much gap will Pacer E-5 fill?

Typical gap capability is .002 in, the tightest in the E Series. A wicking grade has no body, so it will not bridge a visible gap and adding more adhesive does not help. If your parts do not fit that closely, move up to E-40 at .004 in, E-100 at .005 in, or E-1500 at .010 in.

Does Pacer E-5 need to be refrigerated?

Pacer recommends refrigerating unopened bottles at 40F (4C) for optimum results, then letting the adhesive come up to room temperature before opening. Opening a cold bottle draws condensation into the material. Once opened, store in a cool, dry location. Stored that way, expect a one year shelf life.

What is the part number for the 20 gram Pacer E-5?

Our SKU is PAC-FG01010. The Pacer part number is FG01010 and the UPC is 0 87093 00200 5. On older Pacer paperwork the same item shows as Pacer item number 11740005.
